Carnatica Brothers at Narada Gana Sabha on 22 December

Post by nivedita »

Time: 7 to 9 pm
Violin: Shri Nagai Muralidharan
Mridangam: Shri Trichy Sankaran
Ghatam: Dr S. Karthick

The highlights of the Carnatica Brothers' Narada Gana Sabha concert were the sowkhyam in their singing and the unparalleled beauty of Shri Trichy Sankaran's playing. The concert started with the Kalyani varnam vanajAkshi, followed by pAhimAm shri rAjarAjEshwari (kalpanaswarams in the pallavi) and gyAnamosagarAda (niraval and swarams at paramAtmuDu jIvAtmuDu). A very tasteful mukhAri alapana preceded the kriti EmaninnE. Trichy Sankaran sir's tani with Ghatam Karthick was a class apart; also, at no point in the concert did he overshadow the other performers, yet his playing shone brilliantly throughout. The post-thani pieces were the beautiful Begada javali idinIku, Ravikiran sir's ragamalika ashTalakshmi namOstutE, the ragamalika devarnama pavaDisu paramAtmanE and a tillana in hamsanAdam. Nagai Muralidharan sir was, as usual, outstanding on the violin.

Thanks Nivedita (best wishes for your katcheri today!). I was there too ! A simply superb katcheri. I meant to write a review here but couldn't get myself into an objective enough frame of mind. The entire Mukhari suite from Ganesh's splendid alapana, the swaraprasthara and the tani was a the high point but there were really no lower points either :).
