I have never heard vidushi bhushany , touchpoints were restricted to the DVD release function of super extraordinary vidwan - the great tanjore s kalyanaraman , who is also her husband. Bhushany started with sree ragam and her start was very impressive ,the sound adjustments of two fellow accompanist just fell at the right place for violin and mrudangam, the kanjira was not heard that much. But with mrudangam support being solid , it indeed did not dip the quality of the concert.

The #2 in gowlai of shree mahaganapathi remainded me of MLV amma(her guru sibling) , the brigas were not that striking but certainly she sailed very well with swaras. The dip was most noticable in harikAmbOdhi, it was an issue of not much stamina that crept into harikAMbOdhi. THe filler of AndOlika was not that fast but it was tribute to her parama guru-GNB.

From Bhairavi onwards there was solid sangathi weight , her rendition in alapana was bit crisp nevertheless very intense . The grand krithi of balagOpala is a number i generally adore , she could have started bit more in lower octaves and slowly raised but she still presented well .The neraval and swaras were measured and she did a fine job. The filler in nAttaikurinji was very nice , though I kept wondering whether she could have taken a fast number to warm up enough for ranjani mala rtp.

THe rtp was excellent certainly the pick of the day. All four ragas did not lose any raga bhavam she traversed forboth ragam and taanam in all the four ragas and even in the pallavi she kept up the stamina and tossed up well.

The transitions to each of the ragas that too from manOranjani to janaranjani and then to shreeranjani was an aesthetic shift that had enough dwelling to enjoy each of the raga rasa. What can one say when the genius s kalyanaraman has created such a wonderful pallavi. THe swaras in ranjani mela were quite crisp though I felt she could have planned a bit better as she had to wind up the concert after swaras and with a mini round tani. Definitely for the pallavi alone the concert was worth it.No time for miscellaneous - missed few skr haunting tukkada teasers

The violinist pakkala ramadas(disciple of LGJ) was going well with the moods of the raga,at few times i could hear a sound of bit roughness like when he changed the direction of the bow. As ranganathan(may i know who is his guru?) was the best in the team , well tuned beats that indeed rolled well with the whole concert . Tani was for 14 mins and the kanjira artist shantaram was heard the most there.

On a general note , SKR 's disciples are Anuradha sriram , Sriram gangadharan and few more like Sanjeev's mother Smt brinda venkataraman who has not taken up vocal music. I am not too sure of the callibre of Anuradha to sing this kind of ranjani pallavi , once i heard sriram g in a concert of SKR day where he did not even touch with one skr song. To an extent in the carnatic market , the maximum followers of skr are sanjay, suryaprakash, gurucharan and abhishek (based on what I heard , not what i see as reviews where i have not heard few more who take skr).

She is indeed a finest torch bearer of sunooda vinodhan. I bought the academy souvenir on 16th-Dec and when I saw ranjani mala rtp i decided to be at this concert, though lost another half day leave at work.

Just a bit of loud thinking on musicians of srilanka:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
About a year or two back there were three long writeups about TMK's tour to srilanka in The Hindu all within just 2 to 4 weeks. The first was that tmk was the first vocalist who is performing in war strife lanka after a long time after MLV.There was a second writeup, a review of his concerts covering three cities in colombo , jaffna and another third city in eastern lanka(forgot the lanka town). Then there used to be a third writeup by tmk himself on how he felt his performance there . There was a tone in these writeups about how carnatic music was latently there in srilanka and how it is again percolating.I apppreciate wholeheartedly vidwan TMK in performing there and spreading the divine carnatic music there.Ofcourse vidwan TMK gets a lot of new ears because of the sheer reach of print media and he also helps for sure other musicians in that process. kudos to him.

I see in bhushany biography that she has her early days in srilanka - to an extent one can also say a vocalist from srilanka has performed for the first time at Music Academy(correct me if I am wrong). So kudos to her.I dont know how many musicians are from erstwhile ceylon or srilanka (may be few thavil or nadaswaram vidwans). Is there a social and religious angle that is preventing sabhas wherein they are not provided opportunities .Certainly there is indeed a heavy biased approach by sabhas. You can hardly spot this vidushi performing at chennai . Dont know what to do - but for her caliber which was evident, she has to have more opportunities to showcase the uniqueness of the luminary SKR. Lastly a vocalist from srilanka is indeed performing in a prime morning slot-kudos to music academy on that .

Overall a very good to excellent concert for 2 and half hours.

Bhushani Kalyanaraman has been PERFORMING EXCELLENTLY for close to TWO DECADES and is suffering the same fate as MANY of the other artists from her generation. I am GLAD at least this generation artists have found a way to get RECOGNITION a very much desireable & needed commodity. I STILL like and derive comfort from the scholarly and disciplined approach in trying to emulate & represent the GREATNESS of their GURUS a very DESIREABLE TRAIT that generatrion tried to project....... I DO NOT WANT TO COMMENT ON HER PARENTS "RELIGIOUS", "SOCIAL" BACKGROUND EXCEPT TO SAY IT IS WHILE FASCINATING AND TOTALLY IRRELEVENT TO HER MUSIIC AS WELL AS WHATEVER SHE DOES MUSICALLY. I THOUGHT THAT AFTER ALL (WE GOT INDEPENDENCE IN 1947) THESE DECADES THESE FACTORS WILL NOT BE RELEVENT. I am disappointed with the IGNORANCE as well as PREJUDICES THIS GENERATION appears to have inherited from the DREADFUL GENERATRION to which I belong..... :-@ :-ss VKV

IN the season bhushany just had one opportunity at academy. I just saw few days back where Trichy Pradeep kumar who was supposed to sing at Velachery sabha could not sing(dont know why)and I could see bhushany getting that slot. Nice to hear that. With more sabhas sprawl we can get these opportunities to hear Bhushany.

@Rajeshnat - I think Shri A S Ranganathan learnt from Shri Tanjore Srinivasan.
