A terrific concert - Manakkal Rangarajan - web radio

Post by sankark »

right now (11:03 am IST 26/12/2013) @ http://www.musicgoal.com/radio-station/ ... flash.html

Apparently by Manakkal Rangarajan. What a mind blowing pace/speed! vAtApi in progress.

Nagumomu - even that is in double the speed of what I have usually heard.

Thanks sankark. I happened to catch your alert right in time. Listening to a brisk Ka va va after an excellent varali alapana. Sounds like Mankkal to me as well. It is always good to listen to the grand old musician but today it was quite unexpected. Thanks

wow! wow! wow! can he sing! a unrecognized, un-feted talent (even if i were to go by just this 40 mins of exquisite music)

Full many a gem of purest ray serene
The dark unfathom'd caves of ocean bear:
Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste its sweetness on the desert air

sankark, isn't he an awesome entertainer? Just breathtaking. His ninnuvina is just plain fun to hear. And that was sandwiched between two heavy ones, ka va va and evarura. He is also Mr. RTP and a laya stalwart. I used to have a Pancha Nadai RTP demo by him and quote it at every opportunity I got. It has been a while since I listened to it. I will have to dig that up.

His talents are very well known to at least a few of us here but you are right, a talent of this magnitude deserved better recognition.

agree vk - an entertainer indeed. I am not that fond of mohanam (euphemism for borderline hate ;) ), but I might still convert to mohanam-phile, his was just that wonderful. May be that is the way mOhanam should be sung!
