Abhishek Raghuram @ NGS on 23-Dec

Post by Rajagopalan_V »

Abhishek Raghuram - Vocal
Mysore Srikanth - Violin
Anantha Krishnan - Mridangam

Song List
1. Saami nine kori - Shankarabharanam
2. Saraseeruhaasanapriye - Nattai (n,s)
3. Saaketha nagara naatha - Harikhambhoji (r,n,s)
4. Shankari ninne - Pantuvarali (r, n, s, t)
5. Manasaa manasaa maargamemi - Vardhini (r)
6. Jaathiyum madhamum - Sindhu Bhairavi
7. Mangalam

Not sure that a 2 hour slot could do justice to extraordinary talents such as Abhishek.

'Saaketa nagara naatha' in Harikambhoji - superb neraval and his signature lightning swaras. Audience loved it. Thunderous applause.

Detailed alapana next. Wondering if it was Hamsanandi. Turned out to be Pantuvarali. 'Shankari ninne' kriti by Mysore Vasudevachar.

Neraval and swarams giving a peek into his virtuosity. Mysore Srikanth plays really well too. Audience love again. Applause again.

Thani by Anantha Krishnan - a laya riot for close to 10 mins all by himself as there was no upapakkavadhyam.

'Manasa manasa', a kriti in the raga Vardini. The alapana sounding like a mixture of Suddha Danyasi, Hindolam and Kalyana Vasantam. Experts could opine if there's any connection.

)
The above Thiruarutpaa by Ramalinga Adigal set to tune by Abhi's guru Shri. PSN in the raga Sindu Bhairavi.

Again experts to comment on what the 96 here refers to!

The concert finishes by 09:00 pm. No time for RTP.

Sort of like jumping to curd rice straight from sambar - skipping rasam, chitrannam, payasam, sweet and all the good stuff in between - in a Tambram wedding meal :(

If only half of our nation imbibe the dedication, sincerity and passion in one's profession the likes of Vijay Siva and Abhishek demonstrate, could we not overtake the US of A by miles?!

Yes, people like me in the other half though :)

The human height is equal to 8 spans (சாண்) or 96 digits (விரற்கடை).

Rajagopalan: Thanks for the review. Please post transliteration in English for anything posted in Tamil script. You can use the tool that our forum member Arunk wrote: http://arunk.freepgs.com/cmtranslit/editor.php
(copy&paste tamil script to the lhs, select English on the rhs, click on the arrow icon on the lhs, copy&paste the english transliteration from the rhs)

I have done it already for this thread. Thanks.

Rajagopalan_V ....The ancient Tamil 'angulam' has been found to be equal to 1.763 modern centimetres, according to Sri Balasubramaniam, a professor of materials and metallurgical engineering after his studying archeological records. So we are talking about 3/4 of an inch (2.54 cms = 1 inch). Thus 96 x 3/4 makes 72 inches or 6 feet - the common benchmark to represent a human being's height.
