A very good concert rendered with utmost sincerity from all artists on stage.:ymapplause:

Neraval at mangala kara in bhairavi was excellent.
The ragam jyOthiswaroopiNi was rendered beautifully. The song was mind blowing.
The Khambodhi RTP was chaste, the T being superb.
The piece following srthvA GuNA was new.. I wonder what it was.. It was good though.
The behAg song was rendered with great finesse.

I MISSED A TAMIZH VIRUTTAM though..

I liked this concert immensely. I do not go to his concerts frequently. I particularly liked his choice of ragams in today's concert. I know that it is not always like this. He packed four ragas- three of them quite elaborate in a two and half hour concert. No fillers. Many vidwans sing just two ragas which leaves me crave for more. I have to listen to more concerts of him. But my crib is that I am not comfortable with RTPs in obscure ragas or HM ragas which many often he indulges in. But this concert was grand.

A comment in Dinamalar a couple of days back. A mridanga vidwan talking about singers while eating pongal in the canteen:

"If asked to sing our Saveri or Bhairavi, the colors will run in 5 minutes. That is why these people sing Bindumalini or Hemamalini or some such Hindusthani ragas. I can't care less; I just play yet another tani avarthanam in Adi talam, collect me fee and walk away." :))

I think Sanjay does RTP in pure CM ragas also well. The comment of mridangist cannot be for Sanjay.

The mridangam vidwan comes across petty. May be he was misquoted!!

>6.Kambhodi: RTP
>Yaar pOi solluvAr ennakkaga peyarum kAnen

What is this line in reference to? ( and is it 'pOi' as in 'go' and 'poi' in lie, both seem to fit ;) but in either case I could not relate it to any theme that is known to me ).

That mrdangam artiste better learn to play teental and jhaptal real soon. Or he may get replaced pronto by the drum machine guy that played the upa pakka vadhyam for Chitravina Ravikiran, an experiment that sounded like a failure to me!

PS: Bindumalini is a 100% carnatic raga. May be said mrdangam artiste is thinking of Hindi movie vamps.

Thanks advaitin. yes, the starting line of that song is quite similar.

Found this video after some hard search: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wsi09sosGqI

At least I know now it is 'pOi' and not poi ;)

I assumed that it is 'pErayum' ( as in name ) but that does not seem to fit the sentence. The singer in the above video pronounces it as 'perEyum/pereyum', I do not know what that means either.

I have noted down this pallavi from Sanjay's KGS concert as "yAr pOi SolluvAr enakkAna pEraiyum kANEn"

enakkAna pEr here could mean 'the (right) person for me'

I think 'enakkAna pErayum' is 'the one for me' who is not around. The nayaki misses the hero and is wondering about a messenger to him, hinting that the swan should do it? The reference to the swan is missing in Sanjay's pallavi.

Sridhar,
As I remember the lines, what you say sounds right to me:

yAr pOI solluvAr (who will give the message?)
enakkAna pEraiyum kANOm--annamE nAn enna SeivEn--from the pallavi line of a song in thODi which Sanjay has sung in his concerts.

I always liked the refreshing expression 'enakkAna pEraiyum kANOm' (repeating the first line almost in meaning) in this song. So, 'who's there for me to convey the message to him?--enakkAna pEr (someone who will be of help).

Thanks arasi, sridhar and pvs. The use of 'pEr' in that context ( enakkAna pEraiyum ) to refer to 'my confidantes' was uncommon for me. I guess I should relate it to 'pEr' as in 'pErvazhi' or 'eththanayO pEr'.

I first understood it like pvs and sridhar but arasi's interpretation makes sense. The 'one who is not around' is the messenger and not the hero. That is clear from the thodi padam lyrics when concatenating the ending of the anupallavi/charanam with the pallavi. ('subramaniyanukku idai yAr pOi solluvar', 'murugayyanukku idai yAr pOi solluvar' )

It is indeed a refreshing variation from the typical RTP lyrics.

Also, the first word of the song 'yAr' would have been the trigger to the composer for bringing in 'pEr'.

The reason I like this expression is because it says yet more than something like:
'enakkenRu yArumillai'. That 'kANOm' says it more emphatically and directly.

As Ravi himself might say, in dance, the line does yield to many shades of expression.
