Bhujagasaayino Namamangalam
Exactly two years ago -- on the same day and at the same venue -- Abhi had cast a spell on the audience with his swara pyrotechnics and neraval at ‘Bamini Samudaya’ in the Swati Tirunal Pantuvarali kriti ‘Sarasaksha Paripalaya’. Prompting the audience to demand an encore with repeated “once more” howls.
Two years hence, he has obviously grown much bigger in stature and built a loyal audience base across the spectrum of ‘classes n masses’.
'Intha Modi Seya’ varnam in Sarnga and ‘Vinaradana manavi’ in Devagandhari were the concert openers.
Alapana in what sounded like Charukesi raga and the kriti ‘Neekela Dayaraadu’. Raga Sarasangi?
A neat Abhogi alapana and the kriti ‘Neekebudu Daya Vachuno’ with neraval and swarams.
An elaborate Kalyani alapana lasting for more than 20 mins interspersed with violin returns. Perhaps a tad too long I felt.
The violinist then starting off with Keeravani alapana. Abhi joining in with a volley of ‘melsthayi sancharas’.
Then a gradual and delectable transition to Kalyani. Followed by a super fast electrifying Tanam with Abhi in the zone like a “man possessed”. Coming to a halt with a super slow touch down.
'Kamala Vadani Kamaladala Nayani Vani’ the pallavi in Kanda Nadai set to Kanda Jati Triputa Talam. Anantha Krishnan having a field day as usual. One felt the presence of (Academy award winning :p ) KVG only here!
A delectable ‘Challare Ramachandrunipai’ in Ahiri and ‘Vittala Sarahoswami’ in what sounded like Desh raga wrapped up the concert.
The highlight of the concert to me being the 'dwiraga' RTP and especially the electrifying Tanam segment.
An enjoyable concert in all, though short of the dizzying heights he took us to two years ago, IMHO!

Yes rajeshnat, bingo! They were selling the CDs of that concert 'kalyanikeervani' in Canada at the hall. A 2-CD pack with the second CD only on this dwiraga RTP. Bought it!
