Both Sri Embar Vijayaraghavachariar and Smt Visaka Hari mention in their respective discourses on the pancharatna kritis that Jagadananda Karaka has 108 names of Rama / Vishnu, and that if the padas are correctly split, it can be treated as a full fledged ashtottara. While they explain some of the phrases, the paucity of time means that they cannot explain the whole kriti.
Is there any book / text where the full pada chheda (preferably with meaning and context) is available?

Re: Vyakhyana of Jagadananda Karaka
You may find the word-by-word meaning of the kRti here -
http://thyagaraja-vaibhavam.blogspot.in ... araka.html
Regarding padaccheda, Sanskrit is a language where there is a great liberty in splitting words according to one's liking. This has resulted in having totally opposite and impossible meanings of great works like Vishnu sahasra nAma and lalita sahasra nAma also. Therefore, I would not be surprised if some Sanskrit scholar manages to contrive only 108 names in this kRti. But it is not correct to say that there are 108 names only - going by the commonly accepted word splitting done in the post. I do not hold any final view on this.
Further, the 'tyAgarAja' mudra is found in the last two caraNas. Some say the last caraNa is a latter addition.

Re: Vyakhyana of Jagadananda Karaka
V.Govindan Sir,
The mudra is found in three caranams. I won't number them since there is great variation in the order of singing the caranams across pAThAntarams, some club all three mudrA-caraNams at the end; while some sing a mudra caranam after every set of three. The three mudrA caranams are - kara-dhRta-shara-jAla, purANa-puruSa and agaNita-guNa.
I just had oportunity to look at the link you give, and noticed that you have retained the erroneous reading vAgIndra-janaka, while the correct version has the hrasva (short) vowel, making it vAgindra-janaka. A similar mistake is seen in common pronunciation/ publication of the saurASTra song on ganapati - vAgAdhipati when it should be vAgadhipati.
Please take a look at it.
KSJ, Indeed, there have been interpretations of jagadanandakAraka as being composed of 108 names of rAma. Please drop me a mail through the forum.

Re: Vyakhyana of Jagadananda Karaka
Keerthi,
I am in full agreement with you on the two words - vAgindra and vAgadhipati. In regard to vAgindra - It is given as 'vAgIndra' (dIrgha) in all the books. Therefore, I cannot change this on my own; I have accordingly left a comment (comment No 4) wherein I have pointed out that this should be 'vAgindra'.
In regard to vAgadhipati, this is how I have mentioned in my version of the kRti, because, there is a variation in the books I referred to.

I just want to bring to your attention the excellent book (in Tamil) by Dr Varadachari Sadagopan
titled " shri satguruvin ghanarAga pancaratna kritigaL"
In this he has discussed extensively the lyrical and esoteric meaning of all the five and specially
discusses the NATTai as the 108 ashtottara and its implications.

Govindan Sir,
I am glad that we agree on vAgindra and vAgadhipati. I should have read your notes and not just the kRti.
