Ramana-the Young Moon(Bala Chandra) is sure to go places.
Flawless handling of Bhairavi in itself is a proof of the baalaka's Jnaana.
Thanks to Guru Smt. Nagalakshmi for imparting the Karaikudi bani.
Congrats to his parents for nurturing his talents in Veena which only a committed person can pursue.
Another 'offsite isai-vizha' concert for Chennites with very good pakkamelam, well recorded and presented.

Lovely bhairavi -loved the balagopala. We keep hearing that veena takes intense years to master , but ramana balachandran @ 12 years is just WOW :ymapplause:

I met Ramana and his mother at the Trichy Sankaran lecdem on Tani Avartanam at Essae Foundation on 5 Jan. The boy is learning vocal and mridangam also.

Punarvasu, this young boy was sitting in right in front of me at one of the season's concerts from last December (Jayanthi Kumaresh @ Prabhat Sangeetham).I was impressed that a boy of his age was appreciating the music so well! Now it figures.

thanks, VK. I figured that he was of the Karaikudi Sambasiva Iyer school, given the style of tanam he played before the bhairavi bAlagOpAla kriti.

Mahavishnu, yes, I also liked his kuDumi. And the ease with which he handles the instrument. I think even if we have 10 such children every ten years, this divine instrument will thrive. Now a days, nobody takes to veena. I really wish more children come forward to learn veena.

I just listened to his sAmi ninnE varnam. At the beginning he plays the Shankarabharanam arohanam and avarohanam at various speeds with full on gamakams just like a song and mridangist joins him too to make it sound like a song even more. I was wondering which Varnam starts like that Only when the boy started singing the first line of the varnam I realized what was happening. Nice!
