I am shocked at seeing the above post. Normally I will not see the posts of Charulatha Mani or read her writings in Hindu. But today, since it was titled Trinity Arts Festival I chanced upon it and I was shocked to see song no 4 as CHENNAI EXPRESS PASURAM. To make things more clear, these are the pasurams- Alamaamarathin meethu oru baalakan and Kondal vannanai kovalanai vennai unda vaayan. This pasuram is sandwiched in a duet song acted by Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the film Chennai Express.
If any musically illiterate person writes like this, I can tolerate. But not a musician as Charulatha Mani. This shows the kind of reverence she has got towards Carnatic Music. Was this pasuram written exclusively for this film. If it is for her publicity, madam, this is counter productive.
CRama,
Kindly satisfy my idle curiosity. How did Chennai and TN folks react to Chennai Express? The movie with
-ageing star desperate to float on top
-very poor depiction of TN folk culture as one dominated by thugs and superthugs
-alien-sounding Tamil dialogues
-crass action, soppy sentimentality
-unbelievable=comic level of photoshopping
-a poor attempt at promo involving a Rajni tribute..
If one were to believe even for a moment the story line, Boy, our country might as well fold up.
Just my thoughts. Now you say a pasuram is labelled by CLM as Chennai Express!
I wrote to the artiste and got the following reply in regard to Sri Crama's point:

Point taken, the track listing could have been worded better. The longer description in the SoundCloud page does not lend itself to any misconception:
“Pasuram in Raga Kapi tuned and sung by Charulatha Mani. Used in the film "Chennai Express" starring Shah Rukh Khan, music by Vishal-Shekhar”
