We have talked about Arabic/persian/turkish Maqams and their resemblance and relationship to ragas quite a while back. I recently found a youtube channel that is full of the performances of the various maqams. It is quite interesting, some of them use gamakas that are close to ours.
For example, this maqam Khalwati sounds like shankarabharanam and Kurinji in many places ( but not all ) with gamakas that are quite close.

And this one sounds like Chakravaham/Ahir Bhairav:

May be this one too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw_KcX8spag
But the one whose name caught my attention is Husayni.

Does this have any relationship to our Huseini? I did not find one though it is not far from our classical vibe. But my skills are limited there.
Anyway, here is the channel for your exploration. I plan to check it out occasionally one at a time.

this one I think is kIravAni. You can hear the scale(arohana) at 2:14 min

Yes, and the initial phrases sounding like mAyAmALavagowLa to me.
Good to hear from you, Suji! If I know you, you will be trying to play this on your violin--piano too?

If this is the one being discussed by everyone, I believe it is Vakulabharanam. You do hear the entire scale, and it does share all the notes of Mayamalavagowla except Ni.. and all the notes of Chakravakam except Da.vasanthakokilam wrote:

The notes are those of Harikambhoji..vasanthakokilam wrote:
