Downloading lyrics in Sanskrit

Post by Meenalochani »

Dear Members,

Could someone please let me know how to download song lyrics in Sanskrit and Tamil into Word in Mac? I have tried doing this from carnatic music websites like Thyagaraja Vaibhavam but I see only some strange characters in Word. My google search tells me to download Sanskrit fonts or Tamil fonts but I am afraid to download files from the internet because my computer belongs to my office. I will be very thankful for helpful suggestions.

Thank you very much.

Two ways:
Save each page as a picture, or print as a PDF file.
Or install Sanskrit Unicode fonts and read/edit in MS Word etc. don't worry, if you download the fonts from a well-known site, the font files will not harm your computer .
Choose TrueType fonts like this one:

http://www.fonts2u.com/devanagari-new-normal.font

After you install this font, and later when you copy paste the text into your page, you can convert the meaningless characters into this font by selecting the text and changing the font to this one.
I shall post an example in the next post.

Better still, Meenalochani, give me your links from where you got the texts (you downloaded) from the Net. I shall download the same.
I shall show you the solution for showing it up in Deavanagari on your document.
It will be shown on a Windows computer shot, but i will ensure the solution works for you also in your Mac.
what word processing software do you use?

PS : I am travelling so this exercise will take some days.

Rsachi Sir,

Thank you very much for offering to kind help and that means a lot to me.
To answer your questions, I mostly use the following two web sites to download lyrics in Sanskrit or Tamil for my preferred songs.

http//thyagaraja-vaibhavam.blogspot.in/
http://www.vgovindan.info/Nadopasaka/Nadopasaka.html

I would like to download on Microsoft Word in Mac (Mac 2011, Version 14.3.9). I want to use Microsoft Word for downloading because I can do some changes in formatting etc., on the files. I would also like to know how to save the files as a picture. or PDF file Also thank you very much for sending me the link to Sanskrit fonts. I am sure with your help I could get what I want. Please take your time to send in a reply.

OK, if you have been able to download and install the font via the link I gave you, please try this:

1. Copy the text from the blogspot page
2. Paste it into a blank page in Word.
3. Select the text
4. Change the font to Devanagari

let me know if it works, please.

Meenalocani,
I can send across to you all the kRtis in Word format in a single file (5 mb)
I can send across all the kRtis in Unicode (txt file) format (Tamil - Telugu - Devanagari - Malayalam)- each kRti in a separate file - arranged alphabetically in separate directories (8 mb).
Please tell me what you want. Unfortunately, I cannot make any suggestion regarding Mac because my complete work has been done in Windows environment.

Thank you all for the replies with suggestions.

Rsachi Sir,
I downloaded and installed the suggested font but it asked " there is a little problem and if I wanted to proceed". I cannot make out what it means.

vgovindan Sir,
It would be wonderful to have you send me all the krithis in Word format in a single as well as in separate files (if you can). You can find my Yahoo account in the rasikas.org forum. I have also a gmail account that I can give you.

eesha,
Thank you very much for the link. I will try that and let you know.

Till yesterday I was struggling with this problem and today everything changed thanks to help from members.
