Yes, it was a fabulous concert. TNS' voice was in great shape. My pick for the best item - tough choice from among several great ragas, but I'd go for the Bhairavi!

Ram, what was the ocassion for this thematic OVK concert? The sAmA piece is not a very commonly heard one, as well as the amritavarSiNi song.
Hope this is a concert that eventually makes it to the commercial arena!

Here too, Bhairavi is eye/ear catchy.

Choosing a Bhairavi kriti immediately after Main Todi, is a challenge for any artist. For TNS, it is not at all difficult.

The concert was the first one in the Bharat Sangeet Utsav 2006 organized by Carnatica. I am not sure why TNS chose Uthukadu Venkatakavi's compositions as the theme .... may be because there was a similar concert he had to give a few days back which I think got cancelled due to heavy rains in Chennai.

I would second Gundakriya in that the Bhairavi piece was very well rendered.

The kalpana swarams in thAyE yashOda were too good .... laced with lot of kanakkus ... and the kanakkus didn't spoil the melodic aspect of it.

TNSâ€™s voice was good and was aiding him in most of whatever he wanted to do.

I was there for the concert from end of mOhanam to the finish. Yes it was a great concert in terms of shri TNS again trying and exposing to me brand new numbers . The concert was very good in nAttaikurinji,bhairavi,sAma ,amrithavArshini and punnagavarAli.

IMHO KalyAni in a main or a submain or a rtp, is like a snake and ladder game for every musician time immemorial.The ladder's that take you to excellence is too few , but the snakes are too much to make it dull and uninspiring. Shri TNS took one ladder where he gave few alApana sketches that was quite good, rest was too much of snakes. His neraval in kalyAni was in "sarakritha veena sagitha suthe lalitha???"

I did not find great neraval in kAlinil silambu in tOdi and main was just OK. sahAna and khamAs started very good , but didnot finish that great. All the rest was ordinary,with the tillana being little jerky.

For me 7 out of 14 were brand new numbers. The best excitement to me was when I was so sure that it would be pAl vadiym mugham when the nAttaikurinji alApanai begun , but that turned out to be koduttu vaitha punniya , well that's what I always like about shri TNS and his encyclopediac vidwat . Nice lyrics by OVK in bhairavi . It went like ettanai kEttalum pOdhum enbathe illai... kannai thirandhAl roopam??, kAdhai thirandhAl ghAnam???

Durai's mridangam was little feeble to me , BSP kanjira was very good .Shri MC's play was good in parts.There was live video recording,so there is a chance for commercial cd's in future.

Wow, looks like the non-Chennaiites may have missed a special concert. It is great that TNS is in good form in this milestone year of his career. Look forward to the recording.

Is Sindhubhairavi the original rAga composed or has it been tuned in this rAga later?

I thought it was tuned later...but I'm not 100% sure.
