RAMNAD KRISHNAN SYMPOSIUM AT CLEVELAND ARADHANA

Post by cacm »

Dear Rasikas,
You will be happy to know that on WED APR 16TH,'14 6:15-7 P.M. (PL SEE www.aradhana.org for updates)THE ABOVE REFERENCED SYMPOSIUM will take place. We are hoping to present examples of R.K.'S Genius along with speakers. Particularly I want to thank & point out R.K.'S SON SRI. R.K.Ramanathan will be flying in from Chennai just to give a ten minute presentation. I am sure he will be available & eager to meet Rasikas of R.K. later. My part of the proceedings will occupy 10 mins half of which will be house keeping activities.
For the other 5 mins I want to request members of Rasikas to write their suggestions. I will try to implement at least some of them. In any case I would like a discussion about R.K.'S MUSIC. Thanks, V.K.V.

VKV Sir
Sangita Kalanidhis and great maestros deliberated the serious issue of developing second line vidwans to continue the legacy at Music Academy. It was unanimously decided to encourage and support 'talented, young and upcoming' vidwans: KVN for ARI bani; MDR for Tiger bani and Ramnad Krishnan for Dhanammal Bani and MLV for GNB bani. Rest is history. Padam singing was considered very difficult and being avoided. Two male vidwans who learnt and were singing padams, with the approval and acceptance of Brindamma-Mukthamma were Ramnad Krishnan and Sandhyavandanam Srinivasa Rao ( SSRao had learnt padams from Shri Vijaya Krishna, brother of Brindamma and his colleague in AIR, Vijayawada).
Ramnad Krishnan maturing in to a great vidwan was recognized for his raga alapna, pallavi, padam and javali singing, as affectionate teacher and colleague and as a composer of thillanas of merit. Premature death snatched away a great maestro on the threshold of offering much more pristine and pure Karnatic Music.
