Hmm.. Jayan a bit of a surprise for me. Couldn't make it to thanks to the Viral going around. I for one have heard her before and very much like her music (both violin and vocal) Traditional.... Surprising that there were no Padams/Javalis - isn't Vid. Rama Ravi one of her gurus?

It was good concert.
I entered when she was finishing of Harikambhoji swarams.
Her rendition of Nari Reethigowla was very nice.

I heard from my learned friend via SMS that it was a good concert by Amritha with a fine selection of Trinity compositions.

I think taking 10 extra minutes to tune the tanpura is the height of professionalism in my opinion, contrary to that of the reviewer.
It is better to get it right than give a subpar performance with an uncertain tanpura!

rupavathi,
That's harsh - especially since we are talking about Jayan here.
His opinion about tuning for 10 minutes can be debated in a civil way, like Mahavishnu did, but calling him an idiot?...... No, please.

Rupavathi - comment was uncalled for. I know Jayan - he is a true rasika and a fine gentleman.

'idiots' in this context is an apaswara. I do hope singers like Amritha continue to insist on real string tamburas, find a way to tune them without challenging the patience of true rasikas. (sometimes the tamburas can be really 'uncooperative'
)

The organiser and the artistes jointly present the program to the audience....wonder what prevents the artistes to tune and sound check 15 mins before the concert ?
