Kum Aishwarya Vidya raghunath- Vocal;

Violin, Mridangam, Ghatam, Khanjira, Mike- NIL :)

1. (as I went in) ragamalika virutham
2. Ragam- Chetasri Balakrishnam- Dwajavanthi
3. Rara maa inti- Asaveri. Fast paced - swift set of swaras
4. Sankarabharanam-Main- Ragam, Swara raaga sudha - Neraval and Swaram.
5. Ragamalika virutham followed by Siva siva siva Bo in Naadanaamakriya. (Post concert in a conversation AVR said that the virutham was selected as the theme of both virutham and kriti is "Kshama" - asking for pardon. Lot of thinking goes into these selections.)
6. Naanege Bhadavano- Behag
7. Pathiki haarathi re, sita - Suruti

It was a well constructed, well presented programme for a bit over 1 hour. Very pleasant. This young lady is without doubt highly talented and getting well versed in the subtle nuances of halting, providing gaps, staying on sruti, timely brigas and mature manodharma. In the coming years she will surely be one of the stars of carnatic music from Bangalore.

Just a small observation (not criticism). While going thro' the final second kaalam korvais in swarams, the clarity, azhuttham and precision of swara placements seem to be a bit muddled. It is possible that it happens to all artists all the time but gets covered up due to the banging of mridangam and violin at high speed. But I am sure that her illustrious gurus will tinker these in the coming years. We wish Aishwarya great success.

Thanks Raghavan for a nice review. One more point. While singing raagam ahe uses the natural strength of voice and hence the gamakas sound complete. Also her viruthams are clear and enunciate on the right words with appropriate emotion.

Though I did not attend this particular concert, I have heard a couple of other concerts of Kum Aisharwya V R . Perfectly in traditional and classical mould, sruti shuddham and right proportion of the nuances that makes her music thoroughly enjoyable.
Leaving apart the fast paced fillers in between heavy items, overall if she can reduce the tempo/speed
slightly by one or two notches, it will have tremendous impact for saukhyam. Infact she has the capacity to take her
music to a sublime level if she can bring In a little more of devotion/bhakti into her singing. ( I am sure she will get this
over a period of time and experirence.) Otherwise what happens is things get mechanical, which could be technically correct but surely not elevating. I dont want her to miss out on this.
There is Thodi alapana on you tube (concert for Ranjani fine arts) ..great stuff

Naneke badavano=-Gold standard is MS only.
Aseigaleshto is from a different song- Yaduvamsatilakana in the LP Record of ten languages.

You know, I really wish we could access these devaranamas sung by some native Kannada speaking musician like RKS. It makes a difference to those like me who follow and speak Kannada as a mother tongue. Even a perfectionist like MSS has sometimes slight issues. I am saying this after checking out her wonderful NAnEke baDavanO.

And "yaduvamshatilakana" was actually a poem written by DVG, a great 20th century Gandhian thinker and writer known for his wonderful 'mankutimmana kagga'. He wrote a book of poems called 'anthaHpurageete' inspired by the stone sculpture icons in Belur called SilAbAlikeyaru.
This is one of the Krishna icons - giridhAri- at Belur:

Exquisite sculpture. Though I had been there, I have not particularly noticed this. It requires an eye.

And a good camera. Innocent question: Why are the cows and bulls standing on top of each other?

This art style of temple murals and paintings creates an added sense of depth and panorama by arrangement of elements vertically and horizontally.. You can see this in patachitra of Orissa and traditional Mysore paintings also.
