Malavika Sarukkai presented an unforgettable Bharatanatyam recital on Andal. Every piece was a new musical and dance creation with ragas, talas, jatis, and mime of a very high order that is her hallmark. She showed through the eyes and mind of Andal her vision and adoration of Lord Narayana as the Lord of the Seven Hills, as Narasimha, as the cowherd Krishna and as Sriranga. Andal's grand dream of the wedding ceremony was shown in a raga and tala malika with great abhinaya and sanchari bhava.
The finale was of Andal immersing herself in the world of Brindavan. At one point Malavika went near the idol of Narayana on the stage, and with a special play of stage light and hand gestures of nimble finger movements she conjured up the image of Andal's soul alight in its final union with the Lord of Brindavan.
The programme was in aid of causes espoused by the Bangalore alumni of Lady Shriram College. They conducted the programme really well.
Congrats to Malavika and her wonderful musicians. She got emotional when she dedicated the presentation, (looks like a premiere), to her dear mother who was her constant inspiration.
