Very nice concert. TMK was restrained and did not indulge in "shouting" as he is sometimes prone to do. Maybe it was because of the majestic presence of the the maestro UKS on the stage. UKS was simply awesome. rira Parasuram was delightful on the violin.

I was there for the concert. Infact I spent too much time from debate to sumitra vasudev to TMK concert. The viruttam was few lines of the popular moulav gangA by appayA dikshitar , popularized by SSI.

It was upacAramUlanu (R N S T) -bhairavi with neraval in kapaTa nATaka sUtra dhArivai . Correcting that as there is another upacAramu cEsE.

One reason (among others) for my looking forward to reviews is the amount of kritis that get on the list. It is like a crossword puzzle a day and jogs your memory about CM--the rAgAs, tAlAs and composers you know and have forgotten. We also come to know of songs we have not heard before. Looking at lists of the same musician gives us an idea of his or her repertoire and caliber. Of course, a review with substance adds to its value...

the shloka/viruttam is from the "shiva maanasa pooje" of adi shankara. it is the concluding stanza and MSS popularised it as a prelude to "shiva shiva bho" (nadanamakriya).
btw yours truly was on the tambura support for his guru.

Kara charana krutham vaak kayajam karmajam vaa,
Sravana nayanajam vaa maanasam vaa aparadham,
Vihithamavihitham vaa sarva methath Kshamaswa,
Jaya Jaya katunabdhe sri Mahadeva Shambho.

Please pardon Oh lord
All those acts committed by me,
By hands, by action, by body or
By hearing, by my sight, or by my mind,
Whether they are proper or improper..
Victory oh victory, Oh, ocean of mercy,
Oh, The greatest of Gods and Oh benevolent one.

Excellent bhairavi rendition by TMK. viruttam rendering was good too. rest were ordinary to me. As hindOlam mentioned , TMK showed restraint and he did not shout.
With respect to UKS mridangam, in my opinion I like him more when he shows aggression , but certainly he did not have much scope because of the choice of krithis like kalyAni,dhanyAsi and bhairavi. The violinist was good , but was little too long in proportion.
