Re: Karthik Rajagopal of Karthik Fine Arts passes away
A great loss!! A good friend of my late Father, he was the "Go-to" person for my Father to encourage young talent struggling to gain traction in a tough "elitist-institutional environment" in Chennai-he was instrumental in several dramatic troupes staging plays in the Mylapore area(the Egmore Dramatic Society was once a leading proponent of amateur drama). It is tribute to his passion, tenacity and perseverance that despite the dominance of other Mylapore-based sabhas--RR Sabha, narada Gana Sabha etc he managed to "carve" out a niche for both MFAS and Karthik Fine Arts.
We need to recognize such "Institution-builders"(like the late S.V.Krishnan of Nada Inbam) for their foresight(granted that the start-up of their institutions may have sprung out of disenchantment with the "establishment-types),,they were not merely "running away" but "moved towards" building new institutions and helped them sustain themselves and "scale-up"!!
To sceptics who may have wondered in the early fifties in Chenai "WHY another CM institution",folks like the Late Krthik Rajagopal have vindicated the need for another thriving institution- thro their track record of concerts and annual festivals in a "crowded" season in Chennai!!
Condolences to the family!!
