I have listened him once in person in Bangalore in a rAmanavami concert where he sang yAgapriyA.Recently I heard him in DD national on a Saturday @ 8 a.m.(Rasikas may note that DD national broadcasts concerts every Saturday @ 8 a.m alternating CM & HM.).He sang a brilliant hindolam - sAmaja, giving utmost priority to the lyrics.A great artist.

Jayan,
Thank you for introducing this vocalist whose music has to be heard, it seems! Is he from an andhra family of musicians? Bellary makes me think that, but the name Raghavendra is very karnataka!

He obviously does not give as many concerts. Otherwise we would have known about him.

Ganeshkant,
Good to hear from you these days! Thanks for the info about DD National. When I was in India, I did catch a program of R&G after reading about it on Rasikas.org. Will pass on the message to friends in India who can't go to concerts that much. I had a feeling I heard the sisters in the evening. Did not know there were morning broadcasts too on DD national.

Arasi avare
Vidvan Raghavendra is Bellary Venkateshachar's son.
We have discussed about him before. If I remember right, there is a thread under Vidvans section.

Many of them mistake Bellary is from andhrapradesh for many years I used to think the same. Bellary is actually a district in karnataka though the region is called hyderabad karnataka.

I was there in the concert. Met brain drain as well, who is BR's fan. Suddha sangeetham, meaning no apaswarams at all. Quite popular among Bhakti Sangeetha priyas. Hall was full with Rama bhakthas. Not very popular among hardcore CM rasikas, which is what brain drain is regretting here as well as in his blog. But I think there is good reason. Voice can by no means be called sweet , in fact quite harsh. For example a sweet composition like Sujana jeevana which is built up with mellinam words (soft sounding, in Tamil description of poetry) and almost no vallinam (hard sounding, KA,CHA, TA, THA,PA RRA) one would expect graceful, soft and melodious presentation but alas.. The grinding of words incl RRRRRRRaama, is difficult to enjoy. I stayed till rithigowla and left, with prasadam, of course. Good decision, as I understand the main was sankarabharanam, far from being my favourite. SRI. CNC was ok in violin, BCM was good trying to smooth the rough edges to the extent possible. Will be an interesting concert for about 1.5 hours.
