Vidushi Aishwarya Vidhya Raghunath @ Rama mandira Vyalikaval

Post by Purist »

As a part of Ramanavami celebrations Kum Aishwarya Vidya Raghunath (AVR) gave an excellent concert
at Sri Rama Temple, Vyalikaval, Bangalore on the 10th April.

Accompanists were : Smt Nalina Mohan - Violin, Dr Krishna on Mridangam & Smt Bhagyalakshmi Krishna on Morsing.

song list :
1. Varnam - Chalamela (Nattakuranji)
2. Ramabhakti - Suddha Bangala -(T) swaras at Ramabhakti.
3. Kshitija Ramanam Chintaye - Devagandhari - (MD)
4 .Nadhupai - Madhyamavathi - (T) A , N @ Aajanu and swaras.
5. Paramathmudu - Vagadeeswari -(T) A & S
6. Manavyala - Nalinakanthi - (T)
7. Kaddanuvariki- Thodi -(T) A , N @ attumbu & S
Thani
8. Vihara manasa - Kapi -(ST) .
9. Saapasyat Kauslaya - Jhompuri
10. Kelano Hari - Suruti - (PD)
Mangalam.

AVR made a brisk start with Nattakurnji Varnam (in two kaalams). Ramabhakti followed with sarvalaghu
swarams. Kshitaja Ramanam - a rarity in concerts was rendered with clear diction ( no doubts about devagandhari ).
Dikishtar kritis can be listener's delight if the diction sounds clear and AVR precisely did that.
Nadhupai with a pleasing Madhyamavathi alapana and nereval was well received.

The piece de resistance of the cocnert were Parmathmudu & Kaddanuvariki. Vagadeeswari raga alapana was
a real treat. The legendary Sri T K Rangachari has set the gold standard for this raga and I should say AVR did full
justice in exploring the contours of this beautiful raga in all its splendour. The masterpiece Paramathmudu of Thyagaraja (one of few he composed after Sanyasa in which gives the essence of all vedanta as his final message)
was rendered in authentic fashion and rounded off with swaras.
Manavyala came in as fast filler.( looked like on audience request ). Then came the majestic Thodi. The alapana
was full of bhava and classic exploration in all its beauty. Kaddanuvariki was rendered with full vigour with a good
nereval at 'Attumbu" . Nalina Mohan's response to both Vagadeeswari & Thodi were in keeping with the main artist's
style of singing.
I am not technically competent to write on the Thani, neverthless it was a really good and succinct. Morsing vidushi
got a special applause for her exemplary playing of an instrument that seems to be fading to oblivion.
The concert began only at 7.15pm and considering the limitation of time (of just about 2 hrs) Aishwarya did
a splendid job in packing all the essentials of a traditional concert. :ymapplause:
