I was there till Kalyani.
When the anupallavi was sung in Umabharanam with gusto with all chipping in chorus, the violin string snapped, unused to the high sound from the mridangam perhaps. SriRamkumar got in ready by the time TMK got into the second part of the charanam.
As the tanam got over, I told my son-in-law, 'For all we know, he may sing Jagadanandakaraka.' As I would have finished the last syllable, bang came the song. TMK is becoming predictable. I also remembered SSI doing neraval for the song and TMK went into neraval at Omkara..
When Brindavana Saranga commenced, TMK gestured to Ghatam vidwan and he pushed the ghatam at such a distance that an accidental tapping of the ghatam by his hand also was not possible. The ghatam play was subdued.
I enjoyed the kalyani alapana by violin more.
That melody and vilamba kalam took the centre stage seemed to shut out variety.
While it was a classical rendition of the pieces chosen, as it was not a concert one cannot complain about lack of concert experience.
When the audience clapped, TMK said, 'While I appreciate your applauding, you do not have to feel compelled to do it. Sometimes, if it is quiet it is a beautiful experience. Please do not misunderstand me." The audience seem to have taken the message in right spirit. Clapping was rather subdued.
As we were returning, my son-in-law remarked, 'I think we should skip his concerts for some time.'
We recalled his concerts 5 years earlier where there was so much to enjoy unreservedly. TMK does not want to look back. So, we are looking back at the happy experience of listening to him wistfully.

Reading the list i felt that maybe TMK was back in form.
It is a very good list of songs and also almost in line with the general concert format. Submain, main and thukkadas.

Chellappa,
Thank you for your interesting review.

Just heard Sriram Kumar accompany Sudha last week in Cleveland.

The 'svAnubhava' stand of TMK on the concert stage is quizzical--that he wants to shut out the experience of the audience who respond spontaneously by their applauding?.

Arun Prakash being loud is another thing I cannot imagine. And the ghaTam artiste distanced? And I like Guruprasad's playing!

Anyhow, that kalyANi must have been very good to listen to...

Are we having too much of a good thing called Carnatic music? Is it going the way of IPL?
If I listen even to brilliant, my favourite stars every so often, won't something go stale a bit?

Sachi,
It's like this. The Rasikas.org Reviews window focuses only the (highlighted) musical part of our lives. Hopefully we all live a full life :) We have proof for that too here. There are many threads all over the forum which reflect this. For instance, I know
a bit about about how busy your life is, and yet how rich it is with your varied interests :)

That's true. I found a way out to keep the interet live and it seems to work. Keep rotating the artists
that allows a gap of atleast a month from last listen. Apart from past masters there a quite a few of
the current genre to fill the gap. We should happy there is no shortage on this score ;)

Badari,
Thanks for the song-list. It certainly has more songs and barley any topsy turvy order!

Would like to know what you thought of the concert. Or, I'll go to your blog and see :)
