A Well sketched concert with only 2 alapana...

Voice settled down after 2 - 3 krithis.. and then there was no stopping at all ... the flow was abundant..

Cracker of a concert... would be remembered for nereval and swaras in kEdAragauLa for a long long time.. and the standing ovation (almost for a minute) that followed a spectacular tani

This concert will be remembered for good violin accompaniment by Mysore Manjunath .As compared to the Mysore brothers duet,Manjunath played melodiously and to a reasonable volume.Hats off to Umayalapuram Sivaraman who played marvelously and at the age of 80 years. No one really can produce the rhythmic strokes played by him.Being a senior artist,it is natural that he plays a major role in every item rendered by the main artist.his response to swaras in Kedaragowla raga and subsequent tani brought in well deserved standing ovation.

The thani turned out to be an extension of the KedaragowLa swara prasthara in Khanda Nadai. It was simply breathtaking to be honest! What started with Khanda Nadai, had textures of Chaturashra and Thrishra Nadais, as well. UKS Sir and Amrit Sir played incredibly brilliantly to round-off what was an engaging concert! Their thani ended with flourish of fierce exchanges in the Koraippu section followed by Mohra and Muktaya.

I just heard today a simply breathtaking tani of UKS, the one and only Umayalpuram Sivaraman, from 40 years ago. I have been hearing him in live concerts and recordings from at least 54 years. He is simply the most amazing accompanist. He is truly more Tendulkar than Tendulkar himself. Longevity, creativity, style, presence, positivism, energy, irreplaceability. Unlike a Tendulkar who is more appreciated by the cognoscenti outside India than here ("boys you don't know when you have a good thing going :-) ")luckily he rules supreme here. And I haven't heard of injuries! GOD IS GREAT.

Badari,
Glad that you could go to NSG's concert. His singing and orchestrating children at Cleveland, his scoring the music for one evening of the five MahAbhArathA dance drama were all inspiring.

The mega festival at Cleveland and the time-honored Rama Navami utsava have kept musicians busy weaving their way from one to the other!

I have memories about the Bengaluru festival, but haven't been there in India at this time of the year for ages!

It's heartening to hear that Manjunath accompanied vidyaarthi. How I wish I could have heard the concert! We have almost lost the brothers to fusion concerts and to duets which are like the rapids rather than the sweet stream of music they used to delight us with.

No one can question UKS's strength and skills as a performer--even at this age! May he live long, with his ever present gift at playing so deftly.
