Re: Tiruvarur Panchalinga Kritis Workshop
All the very best to the students who participate in this workshop. It is indeed a tall order for Smt. Jaysri to teach those masterpieces to a heterogenous group of learners.
The lambent moonlight of the nIlAmbari gem siddhIswarAya, the langurous kambhOji of srIvalmika lingam in ATa tAlam, the very very unusual melting bilahari of hATakEswara, the undimmed, plaintive radiance of the bhUpAlam and the exacting ecstatic Anandam of the Anandabhairavi kRti; even if this set of songs alone survived, of all of Diksitar's compositions, it would be a fitting and representative sample to testify his genius.
These songs rarely sees light of day - they are asUryampashyA, much like sOmakulAmbikA, the consort of valmikeswara, who is colloquially refered to as paDit-tANDA-pattini; since she never leaves the sanctum [despite being in a mobile pancaloha form].
My regards to Jaysri, who is teaching these songs, and ensuring that they survive in forms other than tape and CD.
I hope the students of SRJ and Smt. Kalpakam Swaminathan too, keep their excellent versions of these songs alive and in circulation.
