Harmony, Cellos and Indian Classical Music
Found this really lovely clip on youtube, sent by a friend of mine. Looks like a live recording, and I thought that the combination of layers of cello and the grand piano were very beautiful. Anil and Gurucharan have added another layer to their already beautiful Aasai Mugham, and I must say I rather love the result. Enjoy!

Quite charming to hear. Seema, thanks for surfacing the link to KVG. Quite beautifully arranged and played. I assume the master mind and arranger is Anil. This reminds me of an arrangement in Vasantha where the piano does different things than the song while keeping the flavor and fragrance of Vasantha but they all fit together so well.
Anil is "silently" doing things in the shadow of mainstream CM and moving from strength to strength in this kind of richly layered CM based music. He is breaking new grounds with this kind of highly tasteful music. I sure hope he gets enough of an audience and following to provide the necessary support to continue his passion.
Does he?

Very nice, thank you. I hope no one takes this comment that follows in the wrong way - the piece was melodically wonderful, but the emotional part was really zero for me. The song is not a joyous love song - The aching longing that is the sthAyi bhAva for this song was not eveident to me through the cellist's play - everytime I hear the original, Smt. MSS is able to effortlessly bring the longing, the pining, and the pathos, making me pciture mIrA vividly as a virahOtkaNThita nAyikA (a nAyikA pining for her beloved, and scanning the horizon with her neck lifted up).

I think so. He seems to be performing very regularly and his passion for music education is building him a silent army of support. I hope so. However he doesn't seem to be discussed much. Why is that?Anil is "silently" doing things in the shadow of mainstream CM and moving from strength to strength in this kind of richly layered CM based music. Harmony, Piano, Sitar and Vocal. Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones.

I never get tired of Norah Jones' voice no matter what she sings. This one sounds pretty good, quite a few facets of music coming together.
