I am extremely happy to share with all of you that Smt.Gayathri Girish has been chosen to receive the "Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar" instituted by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, for the year 2012. This award is given to young artists from different parts of the country in the field of music, dance, theatre and traditional Indian Arts. Kudos to Gayathri !

I remember few years back this award when abhishek got one .I understand that this award is given for musicians below the age of 35.Cross check, I think GG is more than 35 in age.

I just wanted to check if the SNA is really functioning with a lag of 2 years? The list posted is for 2012, and if they are being announced only now, I wonder if they need to be gently reminded that it is 2014 already!

And, this is the first time, I am hearing the R&G duo being refered to by their maiden names!

And some more questions - are the Athreyas a couple (Anirudh for khanjira, and Preethi Athreya for modern dance)? Is the recipient for bharatanATyam Smt. Urmila Sathyanarayanan's daughter?

Ravi: No, I believe Uma Sathya narayanan is a disciple of Chitra Visweswaran. Isn't Urmila Satyanarayana?
I don't think Anirudh Athreya is related to the other Athreya (except through the gothram). Anirudh is a the great-grandson of Papa Venkatramiah.

The Hindustani vocalist Bhuvanesh Komkali is the grandson of the legendary Kumar Gandharva.
Savani Talwalkar is the daughter of Padma Talwalkar.

And as with everything in Indian Classical music, lineage is still king!

I have seen her name spelled both ways and I think Sathyanarayana is probably the correct one.
