Excellent concert - enjoyed it.
Subdued but rich!!!
And with true involvement devoid of blatant impressionism.

Kudos Amrita.

I was glad to have attended this lovely concert.

Nee Chittamu was probably chosen because an article by Ra Ganapathi describes an incident of a devotee singing this before the Mahaswami and HH's comments about the song.

"angaikkodumalar" is Tayumanavar's verse, and not a Tiruppugazh.

angaikkodumalar has been sung by MS Amma in Senjurutti. Sanjay also has sung it. I think Amrita also sang in Senjurutti.

thAyumAnavar
The ragamaliga slokham also had a behag before kapi and saramati and I forgot the raga before behag.
What was the raga that she sang in the durga pancharatnam . There was a shade of revati, malahari and lathantha priya , it had a ms amma hmv casette like sangathis .

I think angaikkodumalar she started with naadanAmakriya and went to senjurutti

Amritha Murali@nAda Inbam on June 12th,2014:
------------------------------------------------------------
Few comments on this concert :
---------------------------------------
1. She certainly planned it well and sang a 2 and 1/2 hour concert . I entered from pantuvarali neraval and I was hearing the dasar krithi for the first time . Pantuvarali generally demands a bit more finesse and I felt amritha could have cut bit more loose , nevertheless well done.

2. The saraswati manohari MD krithi and certainly the usual krithi of T in the same raga entavedukO is miles apart , and i think even in MD followers I think amritha version was certainly different . One could hear a significant shade of kannada and also a bit of poornachandrika .

3. Dhanyasi could have been better and I felt a bit of sag there . The malavi just passed and amritha generally does not have that much verve in singing faster compositions

4. Gangeyatarangini the asampoorna equivalent of gangeyabhooshani was sung very well and I liked her renditon. As she sang
keeravani my mind was thinking punniyam oru koti as a tribute to mahaswami , but with Dr Raghavan chandrasekharam ashraye
popping up it was indeed a surprise for all , I am assuming all of us excepting vidushi amritha did not know that krithi at all . THe krithi was nice and i felt a little more build up in neraval and swaras would have been better

5. All tukkadas were sung very well , a certain touch of MS amma and a possible orientation of Vijaysiva and may be Rk
Shriramkumar is how I view her singing of tukkadas . There was indeed an eclectic touch

6. Both the acccompanist could have pepped up more than what they did that day. Padma violin return in keervani was her best but overall bit more flash would have helped amritha. B sivaraman is certainly the best follower of TK murthy , as shriram one of our forumite once said he is non namitha follower , i interpret that statement as bringing a touch of pure TK murthy - Tanjore school style of playing , but what bothered me was he did not have enough power in his play. More strength will indeed make it better for sivaraman . Amritha Murali is becoming bit more eclectic in her presentation.

Overall a very good concert for 2 and 1/2 hours.

To me the neraval line sounded like "parama SivAkRtim api nArAyaNa smRtim"

The Slokam preceding mOkshamu galadA went like "cArusmita soma kalA vatamsam"

A wonderful concert to attend, after a longish break from the chennai kutchery scene for me.

Sankark,
Thanks for writing about this concert. I can imagine how with involvement (pperumal, yes, I agree) she sang the 'unheard before' songs too.

Rajani,
Glad you could make it!

Sridhar,
Where were you hiding all this time? The Language section misses all your fine verses :)

Rajesh,
Amritha Murali has always been an 'eclectic' singer, if you asked me. That word is fast becoming a cliche :)
I like her touch. Yes, she could become a bit more peppy in her presentation, but her fine singing is something which I like to hear. I would call it measured singing? Her singing in Cleveland was very appealing to me. I also caught her singing a bit in Gowri Ramnarayan's Sarpa Sutra there and it was beautiful.
