Under the auspices of Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, the Raga Laya Prabha Award is being given to Vid Amrutha Venkatesh (Carnatic Vocal) and Vid Ashwin Anand (Carnatic Instrumental) on the 15th of June (Sunday) at 5.30 PM - Malladi Suribabu would present the awards, at R V Dental College Auditorium, JP Nagar 1st Phase, Blr.

This would be followed by a concert by Vids - Malladi Suribabu, Malladi Sreeramprasad, Malladi Ravikumar, accompanied by Vid Varadarajan on the violin, Vid Mannargudi Easwaran on the Mrudangam and Vid G S Ramunajam on Ghatam.

The program is open to all.

The awards were conferred in a short and elegant function. As with other SRLKM functions, it started promptly, everything was in order and the speeches were apt. Following an invocation, Sri. Krishnaprasad gave a welcoming speech. The awards were then conferred on Vid. Amrutha Venkatesh and Vid. Ashwin Anand by Vid. Malladi Suri Babu - to the tune of nagaswaram (recording). Vid. Suri Babu gave a nice short speech exhorting the need to propagate carnatic music. The chief guest (a gamaki exponent, sorry forgot the name) gave an short exposition of gamaka. All the folks on the dais were honored. This was followed by a concert by Vid. Malladi Suri Babu with his sons' Malladi brothers, Vid Varadarajan and Vid. Easwaran. They started with an Asaveri varnam (probably LGJ's). Unfortunately, I had to leave early SRLKM is one of my favorite orgs in bangalore, doing yeoman service to the cause of music. Kudos to them - especially Sri. Krishnaprasad.

Dear KSSR,

While there is no doubt in the services rendered by SRLK for music,i wish to bring the following points to your attention:
Each year SRLK conducts a spring festival in Jan/Feb.This program is for about a week .Each year the same artists are featured.Typically,the festival starts with
Bombay Jayashree,followed by sanjay,TMK,Nithashree,Ranjani& Gayatri,Sudha Raghunathan etc.While some eminent artists are repeated in festivals conducted by Bangalore Gayana Samaja,Nadasurabhi etc,But SRLK beats all when it comes to repeating the artists.
I am pained when good performing artists like Surya Prakash,Saketaraman,Lalgudi Siblings,Neyveli Santana gopalan etc are not featured.
You may go thru the program lists of SRLK to confirm what i am writing.
But I am happy that they feature upcoming artists in the monthly concerts .In fact I heard Surya Prakash and Gayatri Girish first time at SRLK.But later they never give chance to these artists in the festival.
