3. Sri Venkatesam- Todi- Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar

Re: "Play it again, Sam"- your favourite Carnatic compositio
Selecting just 5 is a tough exercise..,and not just because of the number. I find that, in my mind, each composition is linked strongly to a specific rendition. And it is tough for me to separate the composition from my favorite rendition.
So here are my five (with artist in parenthesis):
Jagadodharana - kApi - Purandaradasa (KVN)
Entara nee thana - Harikamboji - Thyagaraja (DKP)
Venkatasaila Vihara - Hamir Kalyani - Subbaraya Sastri (Doreswami Iyengar)
Giripai nelakonna - Sahana - Thyagaraja (MDR)
Chakkani Raja - Karaharapriya - Thyagaraja (MMI)

Super job, Sachi
Do we take mahA kavi Subramanya Bhararthi for granted?? At least, this quick sampling seems to reflect that!
Now's the time for those who chose their fives (very reluctantly, naming them among their many favorites) to think of which ones they could have named, those even more dear to them!
(
Next, I hope you will consider our naming the five favorites in each rAgA. That, even I can think of, I guess!
After all, our essential piece of luggage to a take to a desert island will be loads of music

Arasi,
I believe Subbudu said if marooned on an island, all he would need to have beside was a Sudha Raghunathan cassette (and a solar powered tape deck
)plus Kannadasan poetry.

Parivadini team,
I dont know if you followed last year the survey I conducted on "The Substance of Carnatic Music".. thread here..
http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic. ... it=+survey
If you want to revisit the details, they are archived here:
http://bit.ly/CMsurvey2013
More recently I did another survey:
http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic. ... it=+survey
You can see where I am coming from and where I am going with this....
In my opinion this was a seminal study and will help a lot of people in the CM world.
all the best!
