A many composers-encompassing song list, indeed.
Is the pallavi line by any chance BhArathi's 'uNmai aRindavar unnai gaNipparO mAyaiyE?'

Thanks to all performers who keep BhArathi's verses alive--Chellappa, you would readily agree, the BhArathiyAr fan that you are!
Added thanks to Sanjay for promptly responding. After all, It's for the benefit of the rasikAs.
Ravi,
Can't beat BaTmiNi! Still, how nice to get reviews from other parts of tamizh nADu! I liked the way she detailed the songs and in the way she wound up her review too.

Sanjay is not new to presenting bharathiar pallavis. I have heard live,
Ninnaye rathi endru ninaikkirenadi in Bagesri
And his disciple Sandeep Narayan
SaathikaL illayadi paa paa.
Approaching our independence our hearts swell in pride with our great composers, music and musicians. :-BD

:-BD from me too, kssr.
Not forgetting Sanjay's bhArathi pallavi lines like veLLaith thAmaraip pUvil iruppAL. Of course, an entire song of the bard is even more welcome. A kuRaL is just perfect for a pallavi line. Sanjay has sung kuzhalinidu yAzinidu enbar tam makkaL mazhalai sol kELAdavar. Others too, perhaps.
Though it is tough to consider including all rAgams and different composers in a single concert, bhArathi always livens up a concert, let alone the edge in richness in content.
Another thing. It's always tempting for singers to choose MD's mInAkshi for a Madurai concert. Great as it is, great as nagumOmu is coming from BMK, great as the pancha ratnA krutis are, it's a breath of fresh air to hear other old composers or not often-heard ones of the greats.
Ravi,
So, Subramanian (and other differently spelt versions) become Superman to go with Batman?

Arasi,
You and I and many others like us are obviously enchanted by Bharathi. Aahaa emanates involuntarily from our vocal chords when they start these songs. Just wondered if the enthusiasm is shared by non tamizh rasikas, too. Surely they will love the music portion. But will they be as excited as we are?
If not should we down play our enthusiasm in a forum like this. ADAKKI VAASIKKANUMA.?

kssr,
Bharathi is a world poet. His universal view and the way he looked at the universe qualify him to be heard by all.
How many of us know telugu, kannaDa, hindi and sanskrit to listen to the trinity, PurandaradAsA, ST and AnnamAchAryA to understand all of the lyrics?
I do know that many like to listen to chinnanjiru kiLiyE, even though they can pick up only words here and there in tamizh (mostly sanskritized) to get an idea about the lyrics. I have to add, those who speak tamizh and don't know and appreciate BhArathi are the first ones I'm appealing to
Another thing. In tamizh nADu, we need bhArathi to be sung even more. He is the pinnacle, and any words of his--heard or sung, will add a bit more substance to our lives...

We need not feel wrong about singing the laurels of Tamizh poets and composers in this forum. We enjoy Tagore, don't we? So long as we are not chauvinistic asking that songs be in a particular language, the happiness we feel at the immortal lines of Bharathiyar can be shared here unreservedly.

Re: Sanjay in Madurai : review in The Hindu
Bharathy was a poet who made easy verses that could be understood by most Tamilians. That is how his freedom songs became popular. Tamil artists should try to add atleast one song of Bharathi in their concerts, like Sanjay does. Sanjay makes you wait to see which composer's song he is going to sing that day- Marimutha pillai, Arunachala kavi Rayar or Muthu Thandavar. Because, he delves deep into all the old composers and brings out new songs which are really old. And it makes his concerts interesting. It would be nice to listen to some old Freedom songs (even if we are free today) so that the younger generation of today know how the patriots fought for the freedom we are enjoying today. DKP and KBS have sung such freedom songs . If I am not mistaken, somebody has posted these songs once before im Rasikas. Must be in the Archives.
