CMCM – Common Mistakes in Carnatic Music – is a series of lecture demos that Chitravina N Ravikiran initiated to help students and listeners be aware and sensitive to essential musical grammar (lakshana), avoid literally millions of minute or major melody, rhythm & lyrics lapses that are routinely committed across the board, which, he categorically has stated, ” will only enhance aesthetics and not detract from it!”. It is a historic attempt to make students aware of many subtle and some obvious errors that can easily be avoided and which is why these series have been made freely available to the public.
The first session was presented by Chennai based Madhuradhwani, at Arkay Convention Center in June 2014.
The video recordings of the entire session split into 11 parts, are available at
http://www.acharyanet.com/common-mistak ... ravikiran/
The second session in this series will again be conducted at Arkay Convention Centre by Madhuradwhani on September 8th with Chitravina N Ravikiran.

Re: CMCM- Common Mistakes in Carnatic Music Lec-Dem Series
I just started watching the series of video clips that make up this very interesting presentation.
For those who want to understand what the whole talk is about, I think this clip would convey it very well:
http://youtu.be/Tc_lxiviqWk
I feel this stupendous attempt by an acknowledged master like Ravikiran is worth a more textbook-like approach of presentation, with more visuals, a better organized presentation of clips (I am thinking something like a Prezi which is a chart or a roadmap, of links in a visually laid out format rather than just a series of You Tube linear stacks).
Another thing: when he makes a point and parks it, I wish there was a kind of stack bar on the side that shows it ticked and then we see the next subsection.... In other words the classical American science text book layout (can be and is done in many technical presentations). Of course You Tube is a single dimensional flow of time series and hence the cross links and back and forth stack-up in a 2D or 3D organization of content has to go beyond YT.
Also I think the title "common mistakes" should be replaced with something like "The Six Sigma approach ..." As Ravikiran is making a whole lot of little improvements Kaizen like...

Useful. Better to know what not to do than what to.

Thanks for the comments. The lec-dem was organized by Madhuradhwani of Arkay Convention Centre , thanks to them and Shri Ravikiran for sharing his knowledge generously.
The entire lec-dem was spontaneous and also interactive with musicians, scholars, teachers, students and listeners. So, there was no specific order in which topics or ragas were chosen or presented. After a few more such lec-dems are done, we can try classify them better. In the meantime, we will try to share these videos and caption them where relevant for the benefit of all.

Thank you. In Acharyanet website, you can provide a text synopsis of the talk so far with specific sections linking to various segments. I see you have already segmented them in some manner.
Keep up such very informative lec-dems, even a layman like me would benefit quite a lot!

I have gone through all the 11 Videos which were very kindly made accessible to the aspirants like me all over the globe. Also, I very heartily congratulate Chi. Chitraveena Ravikiran for his very well balanced, sensible and knowledgeable demonstration. As Chi. Chitraveena Ravikiran himself quoted I also congratulate the young thinking brains for their knowledgeable approach in asking their questions. At the same time I also profusely thank the organizers, aSangeetha (Susangeetha), Arkay Convention Centre (Archives’ Centre) and Madhuradhvani (Sumadhuradhvani) for having brought out such a knowledgeable demonstration to the aspirants and also for having made it accessible to the aspirants all over the globe.
As an intensive researcher solely on the easy and effective methods in teaching/learning our music I hope that they will organize the same kind of demonstration on these easy methods also which practically helps the millions of aspirants all over the globe. amsharma
