This concert by the team was Brilliant, Breathtaking and Blissful. The artists blended beautifully and enthralled the small audience at the Kalpakkam Sangeetha Sabha. Amrutha presented each song with subtle nuances, as if she were a great sculptor with penchant to embellish in detail. She has a lovely voice range and brings to the fore the melody aspect of her music with finesse. Kalyani ragam elaboration was exquisite. The violinist’s melody was at par with that of the vocalist, during all stages of the concert. He is endowed with wonderful fingering and bowing techniques that enable him to bring out his manodharma, unfettered. The mrudangist played in tune with the other two artists. In swara kalpana, in the Kalyani kruthi, he also had a turn. Overall a wonderful concert, that will keep ringing in our ears for days to come.

Re: Amrutha, at Kalpakkam
The list is something like a "request list" that I would have given her, had I been there
I have heard her elaborate sabaapathikku in a concert in chennai. Recently heard her Theerada vilayattu piLLai in her interview to a TV channel. Bewitching beauty (kaLLal mayanguvadhu poele kaNN moodi vaai thirandhe kettiruppom:) )Heard a few others too. Very talented girl indeed.

Kssr,
Yes, Saw her interview and heard her sing and play the viNA. She did a great job.
Good to know a lot of music is heard in the suburbs now!
Thanks for the review, Bharathi. Could you please edit the thread heading to Amrutha Venkatesh at Kalpakkam, so that we know 'which' Amrutha?

That would be the suburbs of Mahabalipuram?Good to know a lot of music is heard in the suburbs now!

(or maybe, from Kalpakkam's point of view, Mahabalipuram is its suburb!)
It is a lovely place. SureshVV and I attended Sumithra V's concert there. It is quiet and peaceful.

Nick,
This foreigner stands corrected, local man
I just presumed it was a little-known place in the outskirts of Chennai!

You underestimate the intrepid rasikas that have actually been there!
It's just the other side of Mahabalipuram, which is quite a drive for an evening concert.

arasi.
I think there is only one Amrutha. There are Amrita Sankaranarayanan and Amritha Murali.
Bharathi
In fact I have heard her sing BMK kunthalavarali thillana. Also her guru singing it. One of the most complicated , fascinating compositions.

Yes, Rajesh.
We all have our own ways of spelling the names of others--even well-known names. We only have to scroll through Concert Reviews to see how the names of artistes are written down (typed) the way it occurs to us! How they themselves spell their name is either forgotten or, we are confused. Srinivasan and the sanskrit name of Murugan have how many variations! Of Gayat(h)ris, there are at least three well-known ones!

Yes, am sure all of us have faced this problem while searching for songs in Sangeethapriya - you need to make different searches with Saraswathi, Sarasawati, Sarasvati, Sarasvathi, Saraswathy........... to get compositions on Saraswathi for instance (most of our compositions start with deity names and there are so many variations)
Add to that people adding extra alphabets to their names for numerological reasons.

The confusion of adding h in a name is understandable . Infact I dont even know if vidwan TVS daughter is Amrutha or Amruta . But I was making a point that TVS daughter is not Amrita but only Amrut(h)a- only to disambiguate the post of kssr(#15).

Rajesh,
I know what you mean. Harishankark illustrates the problem better than I tried to do in my post.
Another thing is, we all like others to spell our names as we do. Artistes do too! If they have a name which lends itself to different spellings, they are in a short span of time called (let's say) sarasvathi, Saraswathy, Sarasvati in different announcements in newspapers and posters...

I have sent in a note to the sangeethapriya people to find out if there is a way they can standardize spellings of rAgAs.
