Very impressive concert. I have started liking her concerts. She had come in place of m.s.sheela. The leisurely anandabhairavi item of SS as usual had a soothing effect. Showed the understanding of the artist as to how these kritis are to be presented. Harikambhoji is not my cup of tea. I will leave it. I have been listening to many simhendra madhyamams in recent past ESP in naada neeraajanams. Still this one was very good. No unnecessary stretching of anything. Crisp neraval and swaram with adequate level of brigas. Needless to say the RTP was the winner of the day. As the main was completed early RTP was expected. Luckily a ragam I love. Always link it to a short bharathiar song that TNS has sung incorporating Saagaa Varamu aruLvaai. Stamp of Varamu. Ragam and thaanam were quite short. But there was elaboration in pallavi. It developed nicely. Trikaalam ragamalika swaram , all in place. Changing ragam, she will delve on a bit of the new raga before venturing into the Swaras- TVS style.
The madhuvanthi was a beauty. The lyrics had a soft easy flow suitable for the sweet ragam without any vallinam phrases.
Throughout the lyrics were very clear. One can write down from her singing. Very rare in Carnatic music. Even a few sentences she spoke were clear and intelligible without mincing of words. She has pleasing stage presence and good rapport with pakkavadhyam( did Ganesh Prasad reciprocate?) Overall very satisfactory concert.

I liked the concert. I find that she takes lot of care to plan her concerts. I like Saketa Nagaranatha very much - beautiful song - nobody sings it much these days (have heard MLV and RKS sing it before). Simmendramadhyamam and Varamu were the highlights for me. Varamu was short - my complaint. I liked the way Varamu was handled with carnatic flourishes - unlike the Varamu I have heard recently by RG - which had lot of hindustanish slides. The pallavi was nice with Sahana, Shanmukhapriya(?) and Revathi. It was a wholesome enjoyable concert (including the bajjis outside). kssr - missed saying hello to you. I agree that Simmendramadhyamam seems to be the flavor of the season.

MSS is quite senior. They are quite different. However both present chaste classical music. When MSS could not come the immediate next choice for the organisers, for this annual event, was Vani. That is testimony to her music. We were told that she was in the USA for 15 years during which period she was training students in Carnatic music.
