SURYAPRAKASH - The Fine Arts Society Mumbai 19/10.

Post by priyashekar »

I am a great fan of RajeshNat sir's reporting style :namaste: and I am going to report by borrowing his style a BIT especially for Suryaprakash's Concert.

Vocal : Suryaprakash
Violin : M.R.Gopinath
Mrudangam : Shertalai Ananthakrishnan
Ghatam : Shaktidharan

Concert Type : Nirvana - no concert to follow

Tatwamariya dharama - Reeti gowlai A S at Muladhara
Sri Mathru bhootahm - Kannada - A s at vasunava
Dunmarga - Ranjani - A, N S at Paluku
Mayamma - Ahiri - A
Sarasa Sama - Kapinarayani - S Hitavu
Thiruvadi Charanam - Kambodhi - N S at aduthu vanda ( 1.22 hours )

Then Pazhani velaae - virutham in Huseni followed by Kandan Karunai puriyum vadivel - Bhimplas
Ramanamame thudi maname - Desh
Pavamana
Vaazhiya senthamizh

A marathon 3 .45 mins excellent concert by Surya prakash
All songs were very good so it is difficult to pin point any one song in particular

Kambodhi was sung for 1 .22 mins I kept a tab on my watch. So elaborate and wonderful.(I heard a wonderful Kambodi sung for 1 45 mins by Saketaraman some yeasr back) and tthis was sheer bliss kambodi at its best.

His energy was good till the end and he would have gone for more songs had it not been for the sound recordist standing up.

Gopinath was wonderful following Suryaprakash, his kambodi and Ranjani being brilliant.
Shertalai Anantha krishnan and Shakti dharan were perfect in shadowing the singer.

An excellent concert indeed.

Thanks to Fine Arts for presenting Mohan and Suryaprakash who have not been heard probably in this hall for a long time.

Priya,
Tx for the review . Lalita is very very rare for RTP and that too I generally like his tAnam. Curious here ,Was taanam metered with mrudangam. Glad to hear a long concert that brings everything . BTW for the record, this minute thing was first done by Mahesh 3 from NJ , I picked only from him many years back.

Shri Rajesh sir I am a fan of your reviews not only for the minute details but foralso the detailed reviews which is a sheer joy to read and to know many details.
It just stuck to me that what if I follow your way of reporting it will be fun and I did it with respect.

Suryaprakash sir was initially singing alone but in the middle he asked Ananthakrishnan to join him and it was one of my wishes fulfilled.I always felt thanam should become more interesting if Mridhangam accompanied it but was always wondering why it was not.I had heard Smt Nityashree asking Skanda subramaniam to accompany her for tanam and I just loved it.Yesterday after long time I had the pleasure of hearing it again.

Mridangam accompanying for thanam is a practice followed in Navarathri Mandapam Trivandrum. You can hear and enjoy concerts of great masters held in Navarathri Mandapam which are abundant in circulation.

And it works very well, CRAma.It has its own appeal.

So, Suryaprakash gave an excellent concert. An hour or more of kAmbhOdi! I am glad Mumbai rasikAs were treated to this fare. Yes, Bengaluru and Mumbai should have more of his concerts. Hyderabad too!
