Thanks for the song list. I was waiting for some one to do it.
I got a seat close to the dais. The planning, effort and result was obviously visible in SS(Sanjay).

The starting with gowla raga, one of the most suited for the opening. Two Thyagaraja lyrics presented with care conveying the bhava. The Sama swaras evoked a great feel amidst the audience at the start. SS is at his best with Saama. The vasatabahairavi alapana was always my wish list; for SS has not done it at Bengaluru. MD krithi and then the swaras. Here it was just outlining the raga swaras. ShyamaSastri to complete the trio. Kedaragowla ragam alapana the rakthi raga alapana- strong points of SS.
Charukesi alpana was elaborate though it had some stationary effect at the beginning ; below SS bar
Swaram here had the crescendo effect. Huseni song was immediate.

The alapana for Simhendramadhyamam was in parts and clinical doing all justice for presenting the raga in all combinations and with birgas.
The pallavi rendering was usual SS best and swara prathara here the arithmetic going.
The pallavi rendition at the end after the thani was showcasing the compulsory sticking to the grammar in letter and spirit.
The speech did not deter the team in presenting for another 20 minutes.
As the President of Gayana Samaja had said the the RTP shall be playing in the ears for atleast 4 days.

The varnam is a composition of Mayuram Viswanatha Sastry.

It was indeed a wonderful concert. In my opinion, the Saama and the RTP were truly outstanding. SS is one musician who is always consistently top class. Varadarajan was also brilliant, the duo of SS-varadarajan really elevates the concert. The percussion duo also did a wonderful job.

Another point to note is that SS is really a "no fuss" musician. No moment of time wasted. There is no elaborate tambura tuning ritual or frequent adjustment of the audio levels etc. :)

The Gayana samaja hall is indeed mediocre, the hall needs a renovation badly. I was at the back, and some of the elderly people who were constantlt chit-chatting, was the other irritant.

Good to hear from you all, gardabha_gana, ramam, yogu_n about a solid, no nonsense and imaginative concert of Sanjay.

The list is as varied as it is in all of this vidvAn's concerts. The unexpected element in a Sanjay's concert is: which new (old but unknown or not often-heard) song is he going to sing? How many outside of the trinity treasures, how many from ancient works? Which one from the moderns like Bharathi and so on. His repertoire is not only vast, it keeps growing and I guess it's because he does not stop working at his craft. Considering that there are thousands upon thousands of compositions in CM and they stay in books and in oblivion, we need musicians who share at least some of the hidden treasure with us.

Musicians are not a bride to be of olden days: should know a few songs to sing when the bridegroom and family come to 'view' her. If they don't master enough songs through the years (so that they don't serve the same fare over and over again), they could as well be mere recordings (of quality music, nonetheless).

It doesn't come easy. You put in a lot of devotion and time into it. That's why, along with other assets of Sanjay, his music appeals to me.

gardabha_gana,
I would have missed the neraval too, two concerts in a row :)
Please send me mail. I tried to reach you, but couldn't.

G_G,
To make up for your neraval misses and to add to the celebration of the feast, thanks to VKailasam, you will find a leisurely madhyamAvathi and Sivan's dIpAvali special song sung by Sanjay in an AIR concert with mangaLa dIpAvaLi oLI vIsa' as neraval line!

Sorry, don't know how to give the link :( It's in the Nostalgia thread in the Literature section. If VK or VK or others see it, they may kindly give the link too.
Mangala dIpAvali!

Sorry for being away - due to the festival season. Thanks arasi m'am for the wishes - and wish you a bright and colorful deepavali too. I will listen to the Deepavali song - Thanks much! Sanjay rarely disappoints. I have to admit that the last two concerts have had bangalore repeats - Pallandu Pallandu and Onde Manadali - but no complaints :) He puts in so much effort and the sincerity of the team is self evident. A true torchbearer of tradition. Looking forward to his Nadasurabhi concert :)

Perhaps kvchellappa meant he is 'not' in the Nadasurabhi menu. I can confirm that Sanjay will not be performing at Nadasurabhi's annual festival this year, owing to other commitments. I am sure kssr will be posting the full Nadasurabhi schedule elsewhere in rasikas, if he has not already done so.

But Sanjay, along with Malladi Brothers and Ranjani Gayathri are part of the Ganjam Flights of Fantasy Festival in Bangalore in the latter half of November, details of which will be posted a little later.

Checking the Nadasurabhi website, he is not there in the list :( as I understand that he is travelling during the period. I am told that he will be back for the Ganjam festival - end of November.

http://nadasurabhi.org/concert-schedule ... tival-2014

An impressive list, as usual :) . Also, the Sangeetha Surabhi awardee Dr.Vedavalli, I understand, will present a special thematic presentation (kind of lecdem) showcasing the variety and versatility of Thyagaraja kritis. Sound very interesting, coming from a master like her. Looking forward to it.
