Smt Narayani Mahadevan (Chinnani Mami) mother of Sri MKR passed away peacefully on 28th Oct 2014.

I saw in today's hindu where Mrs narayani mahadevan (Chinnani)photo was put. I remember her son MKR sir made a post few months back where he said she was 94 and was able to sing even a rare thyagaraja krithi in todi without forgetting even one phrase. I also read in Ks mahadevan's biography that Mrs narayani also learnt violin from malaikottai govindaswamy pillai . We have heard so many anecdotes about the good nature of Mrs narayani not just posts here but also in any of the functions where MS amma is remembered . She must have been one great lady with all the goodness that you can associate with that generation.

Yours is an amazing family. It doesn't always happen that a musical family is bound in more than one way with a rasikA family and continues that relationship over a life time and more.

The MS-Sadasivam family is one of a kind, which like a banyan tree spread itself by the aerial roots of the extended family and friends.

Your mother played an important part in it as a friend and confidante of the music treasure of the nation. Your father as a lover, organizer and critic of CM.

Your family's way of living, of absorbing the larger family of relatives and friends is something we are learning more about, thanks to your being amidst us and for Ramesh (MKR) bringing us so much of the life of a family dedicated to the arts in such unique ways.

Your mother is a role model for us who are advancing in our golden years. I am sure you are all so occupied with all your memories of your mother now. Her personality, from what we gather, is something to be admired. Strong, caring, supportive and not putting up with any nonsense--is how I see her from your descriptions and anecdotes.
She's more a role model for us women!

She lived a full life, and if any of us get to live into our nineties, her alertness of mind is what we would all pray for!

She is with her husband now, and with her special friend and other loved ones, having a grand time...

Dear Forumites or should I address as Family members:Appreciate all the nice sentiments expressed by you all.
I will post a detailed note on my mother after I return from Chennai.
For the time being suffice it to say apart from losing a mother I also lost a valuable resource namely a "ready-reference-carnatic music-wikipedia" which my mother was!!!

The only consolation I have is that I have access to the Second best in that area--namely YOU all my fellow forumites!!!
