I am higly interested in acquiring a good tambura, preferably a vintage tambura, and would like to know if any of you can recommend or provide any information as to people or places, where one can buy Miraj Tamburas
Several years ago I bought an excellent vintage Tambura (carnatic) and Veena in Tiruvanmiyur, but contacting the person, I got to know that he had moved somewhere to North India
Also I would like to know if it is recommended to buy a vintage Miraj Tambura or to buy a new one, if so where can these be made-to-order, I would be very grateful if someone can provide good information regarding this
Thanks in advance,
Lakshmi Chari

Thank you, Saptaswara Musicals is known to me. But what I am looking for are vintage Tanpuras or alternatively new Tanpuras made to order on an individual basis, I would be very happy if anyone can share their knowledge and experience.

Re: Vintage Tamburas / Miraj Tamburas
Well, how about going to the source- Miraj, the famous town for its tamburas - the Hindu feature on its heritage. The Miraj tambura definitely has nice tonal quality - even some Tanjore tamburas have the exquisite sound quality. Whichever the preference, one has to personally shop for their personal preferences - they're even miniature versions nowadays. Today's modern technology can offer consolation for the paucity of the instrument on the concert dais, however one cannot deny the authentic physical strumming of perfectly tuned instrument is nonpareil.

Thank you very much, though I had read the article before as well; but what I am looking for is concrete recommendation for a mirag tambura maker, as it seems that in this lane, there are many shops , and how long it would take to make one to order etc
