I think it is now time for us to deliberate about holding of the Global Rasikas Meet in Chennai in Dec 2014 when rasikas all over the globe will visit Chennai for the Music season. Nageswaran Sir and others, please offer your suggestions

Thank you for bringing up the topic.
We may tentatively select either 14 TH December 2014 or 21 ST December 2014, both are on Sunday.
The tentative venue will be at my home from 10.00 AM to 13.00 PM.
Rasikas may give their opinions.

I think we cannot fix date until some schedules are out, especially the Music Academy. I've been wondering when that will be published?

All artistes will be singing in various venues. If we have to miss one concert in MA, we can hear in many other venues. So that need not be a restriction for us. Our overseas rasikas whoever comes to Chennai, I request you to kindly attend this meet without fail, if necessary, by sacrificing one morning concert.

I will sacrifice for all but one or two. Last year I had to sacrifice one for wedding anniversary, but things are looking up and my wife no longer minds sitting through an RV concert!

So I am happy to not the provisional dates, but we should not fix until we have the schedule[s]. We did the same thing last year!

The rasikas meet is important to me too, and I should be very sad to miss it. I hope that more members will show an interest this year.

My suggestion is as to why we have different meets..combine the proposal of C Rama with that of kamalamba

and also a proposal referred by Shri MKR for his father..

" Global rasikas meet remembering Shri gopilalitha, and MKS's father shri Late K.S.Mahadevan
and other rasikas who are no longer with us..."

The video part of the proceedings can be entrusted to parivadini...

It is strange that there is so little interest in this event, and yet, when it happens, there are always enough people to make a party. Is it still on?

MA schedule is out. Most people will be aware of my priorities, and will expect me to say no to 21st! But I'm hardly alone in that: many rasikas.org members will be at the MA that morning.

The MA schedule is out. RV concert on 21st. Many of our members (NICK to lead the queue) will not like to miss that concert. Hence we can have on 28th. 14th is too early for people to land in Chennai.
I think logistics will be a problem to mix it with the GBL memorial concert on 29th in Kalakshetra Colony.
Let us put our heads and come to a decision fast .

Why members are silent on this thread. We had wonderful gatherings in the past about which we are nostalgic even today. This is the only time in a year when we can meet our friends particularly those settled overseas. So my suggestion is that we should have it on 21 Dec as Nageswaran Sir had initially proposed by sacrificing RV concert in MA. Though RV in MA is special, we can hear RV in many other venues. Folks, pl give your opinion as Nageswaran Sir will require time to arrange logistics. Nick. your attention pl.
The Rasikas Meet in Bangalore will not have our overseas friends. So we should not skip this meet.

How many before a Rasikas.org pin is decided upon! I think it is the 'function' concept which makes it all a hurdle. A meeting of like-minded people doesn't have to be an event.

To be fair, it is a tough thing to achieve because rasikAs are there for a limited amount of time and want to make the most of their stay by going to as many concerts as possible. Throw in a bit of meeting relatives and friends in Chennai. It does get to be difficult.

The earlier part of the season means that I will miss it. Others might miss a latter part gathering. On the other hand, some may be able to be there at both!

If no hoopla is accompanied by our getting together, two informal meetings is not a bad idea (no elaborate arrangements are needed, no press coverage!).Just our meeting over a cup of coffee even.

Not that I want to rain on a parade...

Probably if I attend the MA concert of Smt. Vedavalli, I am likely to meet some of our forumites. I will most probably be there. Looking forward to meet as many as possible. Wonder how I will recognise them. I only know the 'queen ' and the queen knows me. The rest, I have to figure out how to recognise, and so do they.

Try this. You do know Nick from photographs. He's easy to locate--a 'sahib' in dhoti and kurta and with a shoulder bag. Introduce yourself to him. He knows more rasikAs than I do.

Well, December is the time when we see the tradition of vesti wearing given a boost ...by non-Indian foreigners! So I may not be the only one. I will be as close to middle of the first non-reserved (the front row is kept for Academy bigwigs and VIPs) row of seats as I can get. I will also be doing my "groupie" thing and will greet the artists at the stage door after the concert.

Due to various problems, I have not had any trip this year: I'm going to take one... To Mylapore for a few days, so I can walk to the academy in the morning. A holiday 10km from home!

Kurta, yes. Many sport them. Not vEShTi and shoulder bag! Except at the Academy once or twice at the evening concerts, I have seen an european patron dressed better than a vidvAn, with gold laced anga vastram (top cloth) completing the get up.

Punarvasu has seen your pictures. So, no problems there!

It's usually after a concert, in the area between the stage entrance and the outside of the foyer that we spot each other at the MA, and of course, in canteens everywhere. NGS environs (Gnanambika) is another venue

I think all can be guessed to an extent, the popular being Arasi and Nick . Nick is easier with his confirming daring traditional attire. I am the toughest I guess.

Unless you wear an elephant mask to match your name:) If Ganeshkant does too, then others need to see the badges on you to tell you both apart (I know what he looks like)

This takes us to wearing the badge, pin, whatever. Oh dear, while waiting for concert schedules, we like to kick around this idea of IDs--the badge of mutual recognition--and every year, we go through this pre-season ritual.

May luck go with us, and as we have been doing so far, we do get to meet a number of members because someone knows someone else and introduces them to us. This is how I have met several rasikAs...

V Ramnarayan of Sruthi magazine reported in Times of India a couple of days back that Gnanambika is out this year at Narada Gana Sabha.

I am really perplexed...kamalamba is arranging a meet on 29th Dec on a larger scale with concerts..II memory of Gopi lalitha..and others...who were with us

Is it necessary to have two meets during the same month? especially during peck of the season..

There seems to be lack of coordination..

My view is this can be avoided...

So far there is no intimation of any meeting or get together on 29th. Only the concerts arranged by kamalamba. On that day, people may come a few minutes before the concert and go for hearing the concert. There will not be any chance for interaction among members. WE do not have a insignia. It will be difficult to recognise many rasikas other than those we know already. Hence this meeting on 14 th is the regular Global Rasikas Meet. Otherwise a meeting should be arranged before the concert on 29th. Somebody has to work on it.
BY the way, overseas members have not so far indicated their attending the meet on 14 Dec.

Unfortunately I will not make it to the Season and more importantly would miss the "highlight" of the "Season"(in my opinion!!)-namely the Rasikas Meet!!!

Nick: Thanks for your kind words.I did make 2 trips --one in September(to see my ailing mother) and one just 10days ago(after my mother's passing on Oct 28th--just returned yesterday from Chennai.

However I am tentatively planning to visit Chennai between Jan 2oth and Feb 5th--hope to catch up in one of the converts in Chennai during the period.

Nick, the loss is mine. In addition to missing out on meeting some of the most interesting people on the planet (to me, at least), I also get to miss every amazing kutcheri and those delightful post-kutcheri conversations at the Academy and elsewhere.

I should be back in Chennai sometime during the course of the year. We will definitely meet then. Perhaps even at an RV concert at Ragasudha hall...

I have fond memories of Sri Gopilalitha since he used to attend the Rasikas meet at Cienu's home whenever I spend my time at Bangaluru.
I would have been very happy to combine with this function the Global Rasikas Meet 2014 on 29.12.2014.
Since I will be traveling to Thailand along with my son's family during the Christmas holidays, this could not be done.

Lunch will be provided after the meet.

Last time, I was able to provide the route to Palavakkam. That is very simple for me because... I live there. I am not nearly so good at West Mambalam!

google map should be the easiest one with landmarks marked and then leading to smaller lanes. that is what I do when someone wants to find the address. I am afraid , even I cannot make it on 21st . I guess the 29th meet holds good.

For a short while, my mood was upbeat - I thought I will finally break the jinx and attend the Rasikas' Meet at your place, an event I earnestly plan to attend year after year - in vain. 14th December was set aside this year as a must do. Alas, the good fortune of interacting with other, better informed rasikas seems to elude me still! I have to be back in Muscat on 18th, so there goes yet another year of hoping and praying! I hope to call on you during my brief visit to Chennai, always providing our cutcheri attendance schedules permit.

I am writing all this in this forum because strangely I do not seem to be touching base with you when I reply to your gmail forwards! (I enjoy the forwards nevertheless, so please keep them coming).
