A brilliant spectacularly dazzling creative concert with delightful ambiance of dimmed lights in Murdock Hall. The opening piece in Suruti was stately and majestic and set the tone for the evening. Neraval in Suruti at Dharani dharam was drenched in bhava.
The evening's offerings were not set to the traditional katcheri paddhati. But the artist commanded " Dont think of this as a concert.....just listen to the music". And listen we did...............kalaal mayangudhu pole to TMKs divine outpouring from the heart.
Bogeendrashayeenam was the masterpiece with cascading torrential artistically crafted kalpana swaras. Nilambari was intoxicating....Kundalavarali was exhilirating.....Ritigowlai was soulful. The pada varnam interspersed with the main pieces was electrifying. The tukkadas felt as elaborately embellished as the main pieces:)
His slow detailed precise rendition wraps the listener in a cocoon of breathtaking sowkhyam. Shri RKS on the violin and Shri KAP were perfect shadows never overstepping the vocalist's bounds.
An evening to remember and cherish:)

I would have loved to listen to his version of this khamAs varNam, which Smt. MSS had made it uniquely hers!

I am a fan of MSS rendition - in addition, Veena Doreswamy Iyengar is awesome too...
