Sri Injikudi's concert on 16.11.14 at Ragasudha Hall

As Rasikas, we have all enjoyed the Nadaswaram concerts for more than five decades from the great TNR, down to Karaikuruchi Arunachalam.
But for nearly five years, there was not much of Nadaswaram concerts.
Sri Injikudi E.M.Subramanyam, the Nadaswaram Vidvan had filled the void and we are able to enjoy his concerts frequently at Chennai.
The traditionalists might have frowned upon the accompaniment of the Violin and Mrudangam to Nadaswaram.
But I feel that the accompaniment of Violin and Mrudangam is well suited and better than the accompaniment of the traditional Thavil.

Sri EMS Concerts are more melody oriented and I feel happy to listen with the Violin and Mrudangam accompaniment.
He plays the sahithyams of many composers in each concert.
The concert arranged by Parivadini [many thanks to them] on 16.11.2014 at Ragasudha Hall was excellent with the songs composed by Dandapani Desikar, Siven, Thyagarajar, Tanjavoor Sankara Iyer, Kamalesa Viital [ Thunga Theera Vihari - oosing out complete melody] and a Tirupughazh.

The excellent accompaniment on the violin by Sri Varadarajan, Mrudangam by Sri Neiveli Venkatesh and Sri Venkatraman on the Kanjira lifted the concert to a very high level.

Nageswaran,
Parivadini brought the concert (live) to us, and I heard it last night. I had heard Injikkudi live once, in that huge auditorium (?) where Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru takes place. In spite of scattered and circulating audience and zooming cameras there, Ifound his playing very appealing.

The concert I heard yesterday was quite absorbing. Am I right in thinking that he played without the mic? Every piece I heard was pleasing to the ear. kannaDa, varamu and shanmukhapriya--all brought out with feeling. He also sounded like a shehnAi to my ears at times.

Varadu's sensitive and enhancing play, and Venkatesh's fine playing, at times sounding like a muted thavil added value to the concert.

I'm sorry I'd miss seeing you and your family in Chennai this time. Going to be late for the season this year.

Nageswaran Sir, Thanks a lot for your review and uploads. I was wondering about the long absence of his concert in Chennai and I wanted to attend this concert also. But last minute, I opted to attend TNS Krishna's concert. I hope I will get a a chance to hear him this season in some sabha. Or I have to wait till January in KGS.
