Sri SVK passes away

Post by sureshvv »

S.V.Krishnamurthy, veteran Hindu critic, passed away Sunday night. He was the most "virile" of carnatic critics and some of his reviews were like poetry as much as the concert he reviewed. He will be missed.

Sincere condolences. Very sad that he had to pass away during what would have been his favorite time of the year :(

In today's hindu there is a brief writeup with his photo. He joined The hindu in 1947 and retired in 1983. Then he had extension till 1990. He is survived by his wife and daughter . I had few occassions to sit next to him , I did not know that he was SVK , few years back only I knew that. He once asked me do you write for Express when I was jotting the song .

Condolences a photo of him in sruti blog.

I was told that he was also present along with wife at a recent concert at the KGS mini hall which I attended. I had half a mind to tell him I was his fan and take a selfie with him, but let the thought pass.

The loss of a highly professional writer. As harsh as he has been in his reviews, we rasikAs have been, of him.

Here, through the artistes, we realize his worth--which is more than what his criticism at times carried. The words from his nephew adds to the performers' words, telling us what kind of a man he really was. Yes, his writing was noteworthy...

TMK's none too subtle comment was indicative of his own class and utterly believable.

And I didn't know until now that he was a son of the inimitable bilingual writer SVV (YesvIvI) :(
And brother of vocalist S.V.Parthasarathy....

Keshav's caricature in The Hindu write-up has brought SVK back to life
