I have heard RKM few times - and this was not the best of his concerts. I felt his voice was not co-operative. As is he has a light and not a powerful or deep voice; and his voice yesterday was making the concert effect all the more sedate. By the time he started the main raga, his voice came to some shape - but not even close to as "normal" it usually is - or at least as I have heard him. Am sure he is going to improve leaps and bounds in his impending concerts.
I have heard the violinist play better - although I loved her bilahari: seemed to have shades of "Papa / TNK" sangathis (which breathed fresh air)....I felt that the Mridangist and the ghatam players did not have lot of scope or time to exhibit their potential.

I happened to listen to his Amma Ravamma in one of the youtube uploads. Such a wonderfully serene rendition. Oozes bhava and sowkhyam. Have been going back to listening to that one again and again.
He is the best amongst the younger generation singers.

My wife attended this concert and also recorded S.pandu varali in her mobile. It was ok for me. Sometimes, open auditorium, like PS high School or Mylapore Fine arts, may be having a problem. If coupled with poor audio system, the concert will be bad on a given day.
Ramakrishna murthy's ascendance to this level is surprising me. No other artist, like Bharat sunder, rithvik raja, kunnakudy balamuralikrishna, TNK Krishna, sandeep narayan, prasanna venkatraman & 4th Generation Maharajapuram-could get to this level. These youngsters started before RM. In fact, I heard RM only two years back. He did not have "eminent" guru like these have. May be his "sAdhakam" and luck played a major part. His ascendency to Music Academy where artists like BRinda Manickavasagam could not, is another point merits mention.

I guess it was a closed auditorium.grsastrigal wrote:Sometimes, open auditorium, like PS high School or Mylapore Fine arts, may be having a problem. If coupled with poor audio system, the concert will be bad on a given day.
I have heard almost all artists that you have mentioned, and am not sure what level you are referring to. Perhaps KBMK and TNSK are seniors to RKM - other than that, I perceived all these to be in the same bracket.....or am I missing your point?grsastrigal wrote: Ramakrishna murthy's ascendance to this level is surprising me. BTW I do not know why MA is still any yardstick. In fact, in the last several years - particularly in the last decade, music academy's standards have stooped to spiraling lows - (including its' administration). Perhaps it still has one of the biggest halls in Chennai - that is all.

I have listened to all the young artistes named here. RKM plus point is his very clear diction and enunciation. When you hear the words clearly the bhavam is enhanced even for languages like Telegu, Kannada and Sanskrit.
Also i think he does not do overspeeding and maintains a calm and composed balance throughout the concert. Initially i was not so much in his favor but my opinion has changed now. He is good. He sings with feeling. That's all that matters !

Can improve by adding a little bit of unpredictability... Hard working but stays on the beaten track.

RKM is still very young and definitely he will do well to stay on beaten track for some more time .

TM Krishna trying to be away from beaten track has been widely criticized and there is a suggestion that RKM should step out of the beaten track by one of our rasikas. This is a conflicting requirement and rasika may spell out what he expects Sri RKM to present in the concerts.

There are different ways to step off the beaten track. TMK has fallen off the edge
I find RKM's progression of sangatis fairly predictable and prototypical in the manodharmic aspects. While his ability is amazing, it gets boring if you can tell what is coming next.
