It is always pleasure to attend one of my favourite artist Smt Gayathri Girish concert who has excellent voice, diction and can sing effortless in high octave brilliantly
Today's concert her second in the season was just extraordinary. Her selection of songs and ragas were simply superb and for me breathing fresh air. The ragas - hamIrkalyANi (b) kEdAra gauLa, mAnji, maaLavi – were unique in this season so far. After a very long time I could see a musician giving importance by singing Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi compositon.

The main krithi of the evening was ninnE nammitinayya in simhEndramadhyam. (Mysore Vasudevacharya ) with Pannagendra shayana Pannagaari vaahana -Niraval) was scintillating .
She was brilliantly supported by Shri V Sanjeev in Violin Shri Poongulam Subramaniam in Mirudangam and Harihara Sharma in Kanjira
The songs of the evening were:
1) Saraseeruhaasana : naaTTai (Puliyoor Shree Duraiswaami Aiyyar)
2) nAda murali gAna vilOlA- hamIrkalyANi (Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi)
3) Abhayamba nayaka kEdAra gauLa (Muthuswami Dikshitar)
4) brOvavammA tAmasamElE – mAnji (Syama Sastri)
5) Nenarunchi Naanu annitiki maaLavi (Thyagaraja)
6) ninnE nammitinayya. simhEndramadhyam. (Mysore Vasudevacharya_)( panakAri vAhana -Niraval)
7) Thillana – Kamas (Lalgudi)
Returned with immense satisfaction.

Happy that Sri Venkatakavi's songs are being rendered by Smt.Gayathri. it is a fabulous composition. I have listened to this in her CD. Thanks for the review.

Oh, wow, must have been great, this concert, like the way the rythm keeps changing in the hamirkalyani song.

GG sings Oothukadu songs a lot too. She has sung Aadathu Asangathu Vaa as submain in few of her concerts.
She has a talent to present rare krithis appealingly, which the audience will like immediately.
