Sri MSG Guruji Tribute Concert by Dr.M.Narmadha

Had the privilege to attend this concert of Narmadha madam.
Concert started with Saaranga varnam rendered in the typical parur style.
It was followed by a krithi panchamatanga in Malahari on Lord Vinaayaga.
A unique krithi adikondar in maayamalava gowla by muthu thandavar created a very serene mood to the concert.
Saint Thyagaraja composition in raagam Kedharam rama nee was simple, pure and suited the sabha ambience a lot.
The main krithi was bhavanutha in raagam mohanam.
The highlight of the concert was Maarubalga song in Sriranjini rendered in Parur style. Dr.M.Narmadha remarked on the teaching of her grandfather Parur Sri.Sundaram Iyer before rendering this song.
A very fast tempo Sudhaamayi in ragam Amrithavarshini showed the control and command that Dr.M.Narmadha had over the violin whilst rendering the high tempo songs with tonal clarity and precision.
A Kerala style thaanam was rendered with accompaniment and it was a very pleasant and unique experience.
Govardhana giridhaari bhajan in Brindavana saaranga ragam and the traditional tharaana in Sindhu bairavi gave a clear message on the command over hindusthani ragas in parur style.
The Gambiravani composition of Tyagaraja, Sadamathim and kandu kandu nee PurandaraDasar bhajan in raaga Desh
were worthy additions to the concert.
Chinnam chiru kiliye the immortal poem of Mahakavi Bharathiyar highlighted the emotions on each raaga switch aptly.
Sri. B.Sivaraman in mridangam and Trivandrum Rajagopalan in ganjira gave the right percussion support to the concert and showed their prowess during the brief but sweet thaniaavarthanam.

As a viewer and listener: was glued to the concert and only realized when mangalam was performed that concert is over and 2 hours had elapsed. Special thanks to Dr.M.Narmadha and team for delivering a high quality concert.

As always,excellent planning by Madam Narmada who really keeps the MSG bani flying.flying. Bhavanutha played sri MSG is really unforgettable.Rasikas are lucky in Chennai as they get numerous opportunities to listen to Narmada.The Music Academy should recognize and give her a chance for a Solo concert.
