Amrutha Venkatesh - MFAC - 16/12

Post by sureshvv »

Image

Accompanists:

Rajeev
Arjun Ganesh

Started with darbar varnam.
A style where an added emphasis on a single note at a seemingly random place, or repeating a sangati instead of rushing past it adds a certain leisure to the presentation.

A brief nattai alap followed by tiruppavai. A beautiful elaborate swara prasthara showing her vituousity.

A brief surutti alap followed by angarakam aasraye

Original hindolam alapana followed by Ma Ramanan. Now swaras.

Anupama Gunambudhi in atana

Now Sankarabharanam alapana with veena like glides interspersed. Audience claps as she touches lower sa so she ends it a bit prematurely. Would have liked some mandhra sthayee sancharas. There was one lightning like one early on which I don't think she could repeat if she tried.

Seems harimau can't let go of old grudges long after his pet theories have been azhuthama debunked.

Bhakthaprayana of swati tirunal.
Neraval @ neerajaruna charana

Lovely swaras with some delicate vibratto giving way to thani...

She didn't sing Gmpmg rgsrs; now the local mafia is sure to get their shorts in a knot

Suresh, how come you can stay away from work and attend so many concerts all day? Really envy you, sir.

Ashtapadhi (pashyati dishi dishi) in desh. Sung in madhuvanti by some.

Ugaboga in sindhubhairavi (... bandante. Has reference to muchukunda... Wonder if this is the same one)

Ranga baro sri panduranga baro

Quick note on accompanists. Rajeev seems to be the most sought after violinist & his accompaniment is versatile & non-intrusive. Arjun Ganesh was brilliant & flamboyant, showing his ability to play saptha swaras on the mrdangam like the one & only whose name cannot be mentioned :-)

He he :) although we meet at many concerts during the year, and share notes during a few drives back home, in the 2013 season, SVV and I met just once! this year we are doing rather better already.

I can't really take in more than 2-3 concerts a day though. Shared Amrutha this morning, and spent the evening, 2 concerts, at RS Hall, primarily to extend my parampara stalking to ms Rathipriya.

listening to Sangeethapriya upload. wonderful quality of recording. Mridangam rocks. Amrutha is singing as effortlessly as a swan gliding in a placid lake!

Nick,

I chanced upon a concert of Ms Rathipriya on Parivadini and found her singing to be very good. Liked her voice very much. I am unable to find any information about her music lineage. Do you happen to know her guru and the school she belongs to? Thanks!

Nick's paramparA stalking is confined to Smt. R. Vedavalli and her disciples, so, I am certain vidushi Ratipriya is a disciple of Smt. Vedavalli. :-)

Correct :)

But I don't know this lady's history of who else she may have studied with.
