A scholarly concert by the sisters at mudhra...it was indeed a true delight for music lovers...
Some fabulous swaras in rasikapriya...Their presentation of one of the most beautiful composition of Saint Tyagaraja in Bharavi was top notch, and nerval at jaanaki sreepati was done with much bhava....
RTP in lalita was the highlight...especially in the raagamalika section when Haripriya effortlessly glided from Ambika to Lalit and then back in reverse order all the way to lalita ...
Their effective presentation filled with bhava was evident throughout the concert...
Looking forward to their special RTP concert on 22nd in Raagam Gaanamurthi at Parvathi Hall

Sreedarsan Thanks for the review. I had taken down the details. But I did not get time to post it. The Bhairavi was very good. Neraval at an unusual place- Janakipathi.

REg the RTP- one small correction- it was paralalithambike. Then the RTP construction was similar to the MD kriti-Sree nathadi- like first word in first kalam, second in second kalam and third in third kalam and reverse in the utharangam. IT is much evident that it is a construction of their Guru- the great pallavi master TRS. While doing neraval the speed of the words were interchanged which calls for great practice and expertise in laya. Simply our folks pull down many contemporary artistes in the RTP thread in General discussions. I have already written there also. IN this concert Lalitha was sung elaborately for 10 minutes and the entire RTP was good with great presentation of the various components and trikalam and the ragamalika swaras were very imaginative. It took a total of 40 minutes.

Reg the Ganamurthy pallavi you have mentioned, last year they sang that in Mudhra. It is simply superb. Don't miss it.

And the accompaniments were great. Particularly Patri - whose fireworks were highly imaginative and awesome but we did not need a earplug.

.
Yes Madam, very true... many a times i have heard them do nerval with the words interchanged..which indeed is very challenging....

As far as Ambika is concerned, it is supposed to be very similar to Madhuvanthi which is a janyam of Dharmavathi,,I have heard that its also called Tanseni Madhuvanti and Madhuvanti is an allied ragam
Some Hindustani musicians say they both are the same,,But it probably depends on what gharana they represent ..

# I went late and stayed till RTP end and tani.I am hearing Priya sisters in a live concert after a long long time. Few impressions

# Certainly the RTP was the pick of the whole concert ,Lalita is one of my favourites. THey sang taanam well and the pallavi amaippu was very nice . In the swaras it was more haripriya who was excelling . I dont know how different is ragam ambika , i only heard as madhuvanti(perhaps only tansen knows the difference). THe mohanam swaras was handled by shanmughapriya and i noticed bit of voice shake kind of croon there . The lalit at the end was hindustanish and the only lalit i have heard is one that TRS sings in a thamizh composition of pattammal dandapani describing purandara dasa

# On the accompanist , MAK was pretty good little more nadham would have been nice . THe two percussionists to me were on the hyper side , there was way too much of sound . Particularly for every end of a ragamaliga , perhaps with both percussionist ending it was ballistic . I think BSP can show more upapakkavadhyam restraint. Patri is a very special percussionist in this era - went late for this ticketed concert but could not enjoy that much.

Crama,
Is there a trs version of the same pallavi lines . I am assuming priya sisters composed like TRS , could you share any pointers if you have heard the same pallavi line by TRS.

Overall a very good concert .

I have not heard the same pallavi by TRS. He has rendered similar pallavis and explained about the structure of such pallavis in the lec-dems.
