NJ Nandini -Karthik Fine Arts - BVB Mini Hall - 1400 19 Dec

When I entered, this lady was singing some really enjoyable spitfire kalpana swaras in Nattai, the song being Swaminatha. The only comment I want to make is the padachheda - she was singing Valli Shaguruguha Devasenesa throughout.
A crisp Varali came next. She presented Syama Sastri's 'Kamakshi' with considerable aplomb. The niraval start was at one 'sollu' before the samam. She unfurled a lot of kanakku swaras at this tricky place, and full marks to the violinist Apoorva Krishna for replying accurately to all these challenges.
A very sedate Ranganayakam, and then 'Atukaara' in Manoranjani at break neck speed. She's got excellent control on speed and sruti.
Kharaharapriya was the main raga, and Nandini gave it all she had. The raga alapana was very well thought out and very pucca. Tyagaraja's evergreen 'Chakkani Raja Margamu' came with a fine niraval and excellent swara prastara.
She has a good sruti aligned voice, excellent raga gnanam and a very good tala sense. I think she will go very far. Had to leave to to catch up with the next concert in NGS mini
