This was the first of the three concerts that I attended yesterday, and was also the best. Her accompanists were Tanjore Praveen on the mridangam and Sivakumar Anantharaman on the violin
The first of her two main pieces was Ee Vasudha in Sahana (RNS). a very good Sahana ragam was followed by a very mature rendition of the kriti. Her swara rendition was excellent. Here, I must say that I have been following Bharathi’s performances over the course of the last two years, and her swaraprasthanam has improved tremendously over these two years. Main piece was a very grand Saankarabharanam that was presented in style. It started with an outstanding ragam bearing the stamp of the SSI bani and was sung very adventurously. her presentation of the ragam, coupled the magic of her powerful voice…..one could just get transported to another world! This was followed by the kriti Akshaya Linga Vibho (RNS). She chose an interesting place for her neraval – Sadaya Guru Guha. I haven’t heard neraval performed for this line before and I thought it was a great choice for neraval (and was very well executed). After this she sang Bharathiyar’s Mannum Imayamali in Ragamalika – a great way to finish the concert.
Praveen on the mridangam was very good and supported bharathi very well. violin by Sivakumar Anantharaman was good but at the higher notes his notes sounded rather shaky. Bharathi has a great shareeram that was evident in her Sankarabaranam and there were several places in that piece where she reminded me of MS subbulakshmi. On the whole the team gave a great performance and it was a neat concert planned well for 90min and it left me wanting to listen to more. I hope to catch more of her this season.

It was a satisfactory concert but not her best IMO.the starting of shankarAbharaNam was like hariokAmbOdhi and it will be better if bhArati eschews such things. The accompanists were good.I didn't find particularly anything wrong with the violinist though.

I felt the same about Shankarabharanam. It got better as she progressed. Nonetheless this lady has many positives. She comes with very good padantaram. She could be a bit more confident on stage and deliver better. With more concerts and experience she definitely has a place of her own in the field.

IMHO I didn't see anything lacking in Bharathis confidence on stage during her performance yesterday

I didn't either. She is a confident lady who takes the stage in her stride just as she would any other chosen profession. That is not to say everything will always be perfect, but that's true of other professions too.
I feel very lucky to have heard her sing with no amplification. No lack of confidence! And no lack of voice either. Not a trace of strain in filling the room with it.
