Really sad that there were hardly any takers for such a concert (Core audience remained around 20-25 ppl), but What a concert! Far from the maddening crowd of the season, Nada Inbam again comes to the rescue with such quality concerts. As always, mami's concerts are always an epitome of gowravam, coupled with simplicity & humility, with absolutely no fuss whatsoever. Each and every piece rendered with absolute command and authority.

The khambhoji piece mami announced it to be a composition of Meesu Krishna Iyer and set to tune by Alathur Bros and that she got to learn it from her guru Shri. Chengalpet Ranganathan.

Could not leave this concert fearing about the dangerous trend of poor attendance for such quality sangeetham. Proof enough that we are doing bad? Anyways concert of the season for me though.. Waiting to catch up Prof. TNk at the MA in the morning today...

thanks for the review. will try to attend mami's concert when possible. wish rasikas attend concerts of many other musicians too rather than attending ONLY concerts of Star performers. Even Television channels compete in giving chance to the same star performers making it repetitive for rasikas. Time for a change. The reason for only few youngsters to take up Carnatic music as a profession is this lack of support.

I dunno about that, my honest feeling is that now there are too many youngsters taking up carnatic music as a profession without much knowledge or maturity (they are available in all age brackets upto 10, between 10 and 16 and between 16 and 25). Today's youngsters donot need support because they are from well-to-do families and hence the passion to excel is not there.

Most Tiruppugazh verses are sung to what are known as Chandha thalams. One can't fit them into the Sooladi sapta thalams, the 108 thalams or the 72 melakartha thalams.

(I have seen some verses being sung to khanda triputa thalam though. Those would be the exceptions).

Beautiful concert. Thanks to Semmu for drawing my attention to this vidushi, who has somehow escaped my notice until now. Indeed another exemplar of no frills music with azhuttham and classicism. Loved the rare krithis too. Her kamboji alapanai had such fluency and verve! Highlight of the concert for me. The ritigowla and kApi neravals were both outstanding too. There is great clarity in her gamakams too! Wow.

Smt. Usha Rajagopalan was a disappointment. Her kamboji alapanai began in no man's land and meandered. And she was flagrantly off pitch especially in the tara stayi. Haven't heard her before but presume it was a bad day in the office.

Sri Arjun Ganesh was supportive.
