Superb music for 2 hours. Great voice & very good articulation. AB & MMG were the pick for me. What an MMG it was.

Nice concert and full credit to the youngster.
An aside:
To be honest, I am getting a bit bored with this "KVN"-ish style of singing
I am not complaining - it is a great style - but I am just getting bored I guess.
Ramakrishnan Murthy, Amirta Murali, Aswath Narayanan.....they all seem to sing the same "way" - am I missing anything here?
- PP.

Go listen to Pattabhiram Pandit. KVN's student but distinctly different style.pperumal wrote:

PPerumal--We Rasikas are becoming too fastidious--if I were a Musician today and if I were to follow our forum chances are I might give up singing!!!
Apropo our general"easy disenchantment" with whatever is being presented by any artist today (,an anecdote(told to me by the late LGJ --an "insight" into what the yesteryear artistes thought about the rasikas of those years;
During one of the long train journeys from Chennai to Bombay in the fifties a 3-way conversation between GNB,PMI and LGJ.
GNB: I seem to be at my wit's end as to how to gauge audience reaction and how to please the audience?
PMI: (after a "pregnant" pause) says "We the Artistes are responsible>
GNB: How come?
PMI: You give 100% on one day--that becomes the base line for the next concert and you have to give 110% to satisfy the rasika.
GNB So what is the solutionGive less than 100%?
PMI:NO!! I do not mean that!! You give your best on any particular day depending upon your voice, acoustics, recrptivity of the audience and let the Rasikas take whatever they want from it>
LGJ(intersects) Don't we as artistes have an obligation to give more than what the rasikas have come to expect--afterall they have spent lot of time, money and effort to attend our concerts?
PMI: (With his usual light-hearted manner) LGJ You will realise it as you grow older(LGJ was in his Mid Twenties!!)that you will always have somebody saying this concert was not as good as the last one they heard. Trying to meet the varied expectations of the rasikas will be a futile exercise!!!
Needless to say the debate ended inconclusively!!!To PMI's credit he gave 100% everytime and whenevr the instrument did not cooperate because of weather,he was miserable after the concert but would bounce back saying that the Mridangam also has its moods like humans and somedays it "acts" up.Focus on what needs to be done with sudden weather changes and move on!!
PMI's comments would be cryptic and to a starnger it would seem insensitive to rasikas, but he had the highest respect for the audience!!!
PPerumal--SORRY for the DIGRESSION!!! I can relate to HOW you feel!!!

Actually, I am just yearning for diversity and variety amongst the various youngsters who are singing.
I know influences are bound to happen - but I am more interested in youth who sing in their individual style...
I am not a musician - so, i dont know if what I expect is realistic or not.
All I am saying is, the overall "approach" of a RamK concert or an AmrithaM concert seems to be the same.
Anyway I digress - apologies for that.
