Re: GAYATHRI GIRISH- RTP CONCERT
The programme commenced with Sakthi Ganapathim in Nata, a composition of Muthaiah Bhagavathar. The RTP in Hamsanadam ragam and Hamsanadam talam was a great feat in itself. Gayathri was excellently supported by BUGanesh Prasad on the Violin, B.Sivaraman on the Mridangam and TVM Rajagopal on the Ganjira. Before starting the pallavi, GG gave an introduction to the talam which is totally new to us.
Hamsanadam talam is the 31st of the 108 talams. It has a total of 32 Aksharams.
The angas are 2 laghus (8 aksharams), 1 plutam (12 aksharams), 2 Drutams(4 aksharams), 1 Guru(8 aksharams).( Plutam consists of the following angas- 1 laghu, 1 Krushya and 1 Sarpini. ) Thus total 32 aksharams. The way the angas are put has to be visual only and I am unable to explain that here. The pallavi was.
Hamsanaada vinodini paalayamam
Hamsini niranjani
The arudi came after the plutam.
Hamsanadham alapana was sung for 20 minutes and then a tanam for about 10 minutes along with percussion. After singing a detailed neraval, she sang anulomam covering 5 speeds. Then pratilomam was done. This was followed by anulomam-Vilomam. After this, the tala speed was increased and swarams were done in two speeds. Hamsanadam being an audava raga, other audava ragas like Hindolam and Mohanam were taken up for the ragamalika swaras. BUGanesh Prasad excelled in his alapana, tanam and returns. B.Sivaraman and Rajagopal embellished the concert significantly. The way in which the difficult pallavi was executed, it was hard to believe that all the artistes were handling this talam for the first time. That too, the percussion team was lined up only yesterday due to some changes. And they have done a brilliant job. The entire programme took 90 minutes. This RTP is another example for the sincerity, hard work and confidence in which Gayathri is able to conduct any programme -thematic, lec dem or regular concert.
Arasi was among the audience. Many learned musicians like Jayaraj and Jayasree veena couple were in the audience. Kudos to the entire team.

: GAYATHRI GIRISH- RTP
What a lively presentation, even for the unschooled ones in tAlA it was!
Gayathri's thoroughness, expertise and clarity in presentation and the accompanist's total involvement made the program a sparkling one.

Re: GAYATHRI GIRISH- RTP CONCERT
Thanks CRama for the details of the Pallavi & Taala structure of Hamsanaada.
Gayatri deserves appreciation for taking up such tough talas.
When RTPs in such unique Talas are rendered, I think of Shri Srivanchiyam K Ramachandra Iyer from whom I listened to the highly complicated Simhanandana pallavi during the eighties. A direct disciple of Mudicondan Venkatarama Iyer, he was a repository of great compositions and unique musical exercises. (Smt. Suguna Purushothaman has been a co-disciple with Srivanchiyam).
He is said to have presented he Shambhunatanam extempore before the great Sage of Kanchi!
